first, I'm leaking oil either from the oil pan or the rear main. I was under the car and noticed its leaking in the area where the scader plate it between the transfer case and the oil pan. it was hard to see if it was coming from the oil pan bolts or from the big bolt that goes through the scatter shield. Seemed to come pretty hard from the bolt but could be running from the oil pan gasket area in dip in the oil pan where the transfer case sits. It was hard to tell.

Is there a place where it will leak from if the rear main seal goes? I guess I just wanna make sure its the actualy rear main leaking and not just the oil pan. Use to be just a drop drop, now it has gotten a bit worse.

If it is the rear main, any suggestions on how to do it on a automatic 2G?
 
My advice is to clean all the oil off with some brake cleaner. Then let it run and see where the oil is coming from. If it is the rear main, the tranny needs to be taken off. The rest of the instructions should be in your repair manual. And like all good dsm owners, I know you have one ;) .
 
Is there a certain location where it will leak if the rear main is leaking? I'm putting money on rear main, but deff. hoping its the oil pan.

If the rear main is leaking where should that leak be leaking from or is it in the area I have described? like I said, its either leaking in the area where the hump is for the transfer case on the oil pan or kearing from the large bolt that holds the scatter plater to the tranny. The scatter shield between the transfer case and the tranny.


What should/do I need to have for doing the rear main.

tranny fluid, oil, gasket maker( read somewhere there is no gasket for a 2G) and transfer case fluid.
