Im Am A New Dsm Owner So I Dont Know A Lot About These Cars. I Have A 92 Talon Tsi. I Have Arias Piston Eagle Rods, T-4, 750cc Injectors, Maft, Safc, No Head Work(unfortunately), Balance Shaft Eliminator, 255 Fuel Pump, Emission Stuff Gone. Some More But I Dont Know Off The Top Of My Head.

Well Here Is My Problem, Car Starts Right Up Fine Idles At 2000rpm, After 4secs Roughly Its Starts To Cut Out. Give It Gas It Stays Running But Is Very Choppy, If You Rev It Up It Wont Rev Past 4500 Without Breaking Up. Very Rich, Dont Know What It Could Be And I Dont Know The Exact Settings For Maft. Please Help!!!!!

With An Eprom Ecu Do I Need To Use The Maf-t Still? And Will It Be Programmed For 750s And Where Do I Get This?

With an Eprom ecu, you have the option to get what some might say is the best way to tune a DSM (DSMlink).. A plain jane eprom ecu wont come with anything to make those 750's behave, but if your eprom is socketed you can swap out the stock eprom chip with a chip with 750 compensation. (keydiver, dsmchips etc.)

Your car may allready have an e-prom computer in it, and it may not. You can find out by looking for the eprom chip in the lower right hand side of the ECU. Or by checking the part number.

Basically with an eprom it allows you to "socket" the ECU for a custom chip made for your cars modifications. The eprom will not be set up intially for 750cc injectors. That is what the chip is for.

The chip could eliminte the need for the MafT, or you can still use it. If you don't want to use it, you will need a different air flow sensor, such as the 2g MAS, which will include some wiring.

I'm sure some more MafT users will chime in. Good luck.

If I Use The Chip Can I Still Use The Safc To Tune The Fuel For Boost Preferences. And With Switching It Over To A 2g Mas What Wiring Needs To Be Done, And What Chip Is The Best And Who Do I Call???

Thanks

You can still use the AFC with the chip for fine tuning. You can also use the MafT with the chip. When you order the chip just make sure you tell the maker what sensor type you are going to use. Really only minimum adjustment is needed, if any, the chip does a great job.

The 2G MAS wiring will require you to unwire the MafT and put everything back to normal. It should basically be undoing the rpm signal wire and reconnecting it like stock, then unplugging the MAFT from the harness. Heres the install link to give you an idea of whats involved.

Here is a link for putting a 2G MAS in a 1G. You will need the 2G MAS plug to come with the 2G MAS or a modified 1G power transistor plug (they both plug in). Then you have to hardwire it to the vehicle MAS harness. Its really not that diffucult. They also sell a plug and play adapter if you don't want to hardwire. If you don't have an airbox to modify you will need to pick up a filter, filter to MAS adapter, and a 2G MAS to a 1G hard intake pipe, and a coupler to replace where the GM Maf was will also be needed.

Here is the link to DSMchips, it is where I have my chip through. They have excellent customer support and a forum just for their chips.

I am not trying to talk you out of the MAfT, I just want you to understand there are other options. Many have success with the Translator setup.

I have never heard of converting an eprom to a non-eprom. You simply just get ahold of an eprom ECU via the classifieds, or ebay and have it socketed to accept the chip. It is a good idea to have the capacitors replaced at that time that leak acid onto the boards and are commonly known to cause trouble for DSMs.

A link for confirmation. Allthough it is a 2g related question, 1G still applies :

I also found these instructions for the MAf Translator, so you can check your settings or try and tune it. Good luck.

my ecu has an md16626 on it and looks like this.

can i have this socketed

Unfortunatly, that is a non-eprom and you will not be able to socket your ECU. Your best bet is to find an Eprom ECU, have the capacitors replaced and the board socketed.

If this were an eprom ECU there would be another chip in the circled area, soldered to the board.
