I am just getting into the tuning mode with my 2G :dsm: GST... I have had it for about a year and have done a few mods (mainly bolt-on). I recently installed a evo3 16G and will be getting a SAFC and 550cc injectors installed soon.

It is time to worry about tuning... I was considering pocketlogger. On the website it says that sampling rate for me will be about 17. That doesn't seem high enough to be useful for me. I really do not have the budget for DSMlink (may be in the future). Would you in the DSM heavens think that buying pocketlogger is a good option at this point. If not then what? I need to do something... Thanks all...

Honestly It is a lot more helpful than you think. I was a poor highschooler and that was one of the first things I bought. Even before I had any real way to tune it (SAFC, etc) It has come in handy all the time. I have a 14b with a SSAC front mount and it makes a world of difference and really does help you tune the car. You just need to understand how to tune first. If you really don't have the money right now for DSMLINK, then at least buy pocketlogger for the time being. Running around without even a remotely close tune is worse than having a rough tune using pocketlogger. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to PM me. Btw I usually dont have a high rate than 12. So 17 would be fantastic!

I was reading that I should also get a wide band O2 sensor. Is this required? Honestly, like many in this forum... I am a married man whose wife would rather buy frilly things for the house than to spend money on that "piece of crap in the garage".

I will get the wide band, but not yet... but... what wide band O2 sensors have you folks been having luck with?

BTW- Thanks for the input on the pocketlogger. I guess I just needed some re-assurance.

NOt to hijack the thread, but I use OBDII gauge and my sampling rate usually runs like 3.5/sec to 5/sec What program are you all using? at 3.5/sec I am assuming it is sampling the sensors 3.5 time a sec but I just dont think data could come out that fast. I have it se to scan only displayed sensors. Does this sound right?

Yes, a wideband is a GREAT tuning device. I am very partial to AEM's UEGO, but others have had plenty of success with other widebands.

FYI widebands are worth their weight in expensive lingerie. Seriously though, they are.

Not a problem. That's why we're here. :)

Only if you HAVE to use a logger thanks to tuning by afc. Please save yourself the pain and get DSMlink. I wish I had done this from the start. Eat ramen for a month if you must. Rent out the wife. DSMlink is worth it.

Rice Over Wheat, I think we all agree that DSMLink is worth it, but we are thinking on a budget as well as a wife..... For what he is doing, I don't think he really needs it. If he had the expendable money to buy it o hell yea, but he doesnt. Plus I really don't think he is planning on running 500 horsepower. Pocketlogger and a SAFC would be good enough for him. Hell even if he got a wideband o2 that would be a kickass setup.

asexton6969- Exactly... I should have been clearer... My goals are not astronomical... I will be happy with low to mid 300 hp AND a happy marriage. (I think the two are compatiable goals.) Not to mention terrorizing those buzzy honda civics! I wish I could afford DSMlink and in the future who knows...

FYI- I will be quietly cracking the piggy bank for a wide band and the pocket logger. Don't worry you will all have to put up with me asking dumb questions about what all the wierd numbers mean that pocketlogger is throwing at me.

Thanks all for the input.
