Tell me if this makes sense:
I pulled my head off after weeks of diagnosing idle problems which appeared to be valve related, I took my head into the local reputable machine shop, and they did a full valve job on it.
Upon reassembling, they say the valves are staying partially open (which was the problem to begin with, which they told me it needed a valve job in the first place). They tell me that the lash adjusters are bad... I don't understand this.
The reason I don't understand is because i've tried 2 sets of the 1g type (small hole)- one set was off a perfectly good running car. The other set was what was on the head originally.
I performed the cleaning and re-oiling technique as shown in the vfaq. They said I may have wrecked them because of that. ??
So here's the deal. I ordered a set of Johnson 3g lash adjusters today. Do I prime these or should I drop them in with only assembly lube? I don't want this to happen with the new ones. Having a fresh valve job done professionally gives me a solid base to start, and I should have no problems with new ones.
Are there any quirks to watch out for in the head like oil passages that could be plugged? should I run air through the passages? I don't know of any procedures outlining this.
Does any of this make sense? I searched but found no definitive answers.
Thanks
