Im new to DSM's. This is the first one I have had and im doing some reading on upgrades and of course the best thing to do its a turbo kit. I was looking on ebay and some people sell complete turbo kits. I was wondering what you guys thought of them. Here is one i found for example. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Comp...7QQihZ019QQcategoryZ33742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem But like i said.. im new at this so if you have any tech. tips please make it in english haha. Thanks alot!

"you get what you pay for" I dont know if i would trust ebay for such important components. not realy something you would wanna skimp out on

Some people have had good luck with Ebay turbo kits; most have not. The turbos generally tend to be of lower quality, are cheaply made knock-off's of proven brands, and if they fail, you don't have the luxury of a vendor to support you if you need warranty work done to them.

Compare that to buying from a DSM-specific vendor, where the turbos are generally of higher quality, are made by proven brands, and if you have a problem, you can see about getting work done under warranty.

Also, if you have a non-turbo DSM, you may need more than just an Ebay turbo kit to boost your car. The kit you linked to appears to be made more for a DSM that's already turbocharged. Even then, supporting mods, such as fuel pumps, a tuning device and logger, injectors, an AFPR, etc. would be necessary to run that kit safely.

Do a little more research about the options for your car, and try to stay away from ebay vendors. Put it this way: Do you want to give your money to a faceless, nameless ebay vendor who only cares about selling a product that fits fifty different vehicles, OR would you rather give your money to a vendor who knows DSMs, supports the DSM community, and researches and develops new products specifically for DSMs?

Ebay is good for non-moving parts, such as 02 housings, downpipes and catbacks, front mounts, but i've never ever heard a good thing about some1 who bought a turbo kit from ebay. A 16g can be had for around 500 and the rest can be sourced to turbo your car for a reasonable price. It may be cheaper, but its not cheap to buy that then buy a quality kit afterward ### ## other turbo seized up

I would never use an ebay turbo, but exhausts, the cast iron manifolds, and o2 housings seem to live up to there name.

Ok guys, thanks alot for your input. It seems all of you have the same mind set on it. I will take your word for it, but can i go wrong with a pipe and intercooler kit? I have heard of people getting them on ebay before without any complaints. They are not name brand and a heck of alot cheaper. So what i was thinking was getting a name brand turbo and componets and then ebay for the intercooler and pipes. What ya guys think? Thanks!

I think you should read through the tech guides and look in the N/T forums and research before you buy anything. Get the maintinence stuff out of the way and make sure the car runs good, then worry about upgrading it. There is so much stuff on this forum to read and so much to learn. I came on here a little over a year ago when i first my car and didnt know to much, but this site put me in the right direction and now i have a good amount of knowledge about these cars. Read, read, read.

I wouldnt go with an ebay kit just like everyone else said. A friend of mine bought an "evo 3 16g" off ebay and after installing he had all sorts of problems with it just in the test drive. He emailed and called the vendor and they refused to give money back, exchange,or repair. They told him there was no warranty on it,it was sold "as is". As is on a brand new turbo? You gotta be kidding me.

The ebay turbos suck but the ebay intercoolers and piping you asked about will be fine. There a lot of people buying them off ebay and not having any real complaints.

agreed....just do some of the basic mods and maybe get a FMIC from off of ebay... than start saving and buy a turbo from a reputable shop!.....that is after you have all other supporting mods!

Since your car isn't turbocharged stock, I would first look into what's necessary to make it turbocharged before looking at sources for individual parts. You may require a few things that aren't in a standard "turbo kit", since most of those kits are developed for cars that are already turbocharged and are merely upgraded parts. Your car lacks certain things, like an oil pan that's fitted for an oil drain line for example, that a turbocharged car already has. I honestly don't know everything that's involved, but I'm positive the information is on this forum somewhere. :)

Good luck, and keep us updated. :thumb:

yes if you want to turbo your n/a you will need the turbo oil pan, turbo pistons, turbo injectors, intercooler, turbo head, turbo, oil lines, all that good stuff and thats just to make it a stock turbo motor.Using the stock turbo parts on the n/a would probably be the cheapest way.

Ok thanks alot for all the input guys. My friend is going to be getting a engine out of a 1g turboed for his 2g. His 2g locked up. I think i will see about getting his engine that locked up for the componets then go from there. Its a project in work. Right now im gona get it running good before i deside to do alot of work too it. I will ask u guys more questions in the future when i need the help. Thanks for all the responses!
