This isn't about removing the canister (I need it for emissions)

Is there any way you can relocate the charcoal canister? I have a a street intercooler kit from extreme intercoolers

this is what it should look like
http://www.extremeintercoolers.com/images/2gdsm/2g_inst_bumper.gif

but because I have that damn canister on my driver side; the kit is offset. It still fits/works but just looks stupid (you can see the end tank).

I heard on the 97's and down the canister is under the battery?!?
I have a 98 GSX

Thanks

Im sure its under the battery on your car also - (it was on my 99)
You must be talking about either ABS stuff or the a/c evap ?

Is that what it is? It seems no one else has that black box that you can see in the duct on the drivers side. It seemed like it would be in the way of all FMIC kits. Do most DSMers have no A/C then?

I guess a I'm going to lose A/C then, Summer is going to be hot (black car and black interior)

thanks

Haha, no guys he's not crazy, the black canister is the charcoal canister. It's located at the front driver side corner right behind the bumper cover. It could be because you have gs-ts.

I checked my friends GST and he does not have the canister there. it is a gsx thing, which sucks for me

I didn't take a pic of my car but found a picture on the net

that is the 1st time ive seen that. welp if that is your case, you can always get a canister from somone that yanked theres and install it under the battery tray. There normaly round, you can also get there bracket.
I want to know what is down there and why they relocated it.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the round canister would you?

I have no idea why mitsubishi decided to put the canister up by the duct on the 2gb's; though someone told me that it keeps the gas fumes away from the cabin. I have to check to see if anything is under the battery to see if I can actually relocate it at all. All this because my intercooler looks cosmetically wrong, I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks for the help

Yes, it is on that side on the 98s. I removed mine.

To relocate it, make some clamps and put it where your stock sidemount intercooler is. There are 2 metal hoses that come from the tank, are on passenger side, go under the radiator and then towards the charcoal canister. Cut those 2 lines, run a vacuum or fuel hose and extend it to where you move canister (in the stock sidemount location).

Thanks, I'll try what you did

This is how bad it looks currently because of the offset.

Mine is under the battery tray. Thats kinda weird

Yeah mitsubishi decided to screw 2gb gsx owners that want front mounts by putting it up front, it blocks all ubends that go around to the turbo outlet. Most kits won't fit unless it is removed. I need emissions so I have to relocate it. I need to find a 2ga gsx's canister now or do what DGajre777 said.

Thank you dave99gst, silver eclipse, and DGajre777 for the help

He is talking about the big black box next to the abs unit it is part of the evap system, it is not the canister it's self. That stuff is only on at idle anyway, you should just rip all of it out and get an EGR block off plate. Makes your engine bay cleaner and you lose weight.

you will pass no prob, dont go and buy a 2ga anything!

ok, are you 100% sure though? I searched on summit racing and this is what it says about block off plates.......

"Who needs emissions anyway?
This block-off plate allows you to seal the EGR passages in your intake manifold for off-road racing use."

Anyway with all the different answers in this thread; I'm just going the safest route and relocating it to the other side. Thanks anyway though.

I have no EGR or Charcoal canister along with 650's and FP2X cams and only a S-AFC to tune...I passed Etest just fine first try.

You don't have to remove your EGR when you remove the charcoal canister.

evap solenoids can be purchased almost anywhere, but the charcoal canister itself should never need replacing... I really doubt you would be able to buy one, even at the dealership. I'm just really curious why you want a new one?

Some people have actually removed the charcoal canister. Of course there will be some emission consequences if you have to go through DEQ. :)
