Will a 97 gts ECU fit into 97 TSI AWD ECU without a problem ?

I would assume so.... the only difference would be the drivetrain.... and I dont think that it is computer controlled

You "assume" and "think" all in one post. I seem to remember something about NOT having assumptions, I think, I guess, etc. in a post.

The FWD and AWD ECUs have different part numbers. In some cases that's due to the resistor for the speed limitor being installed on FWD ECUs but it could also be a different ECU design. However I do expect that it would fire the engine up and be driveable.

Can't say if "without a problem" is true. I don't own one and haven't personally done it.

That's what he is here for. He's a wiseman and helps keep the boards clean of posts like you just made. If you "think" you know something then don't post. If you are certain about what you are saying and have experience with it then post what you know.

On topic though, the ECU should work fine. There are different part numbers for the ECU because the FWD's do have a speed limiter (cuts it at 130mph) from the factory that the AWD's do not. That is the only reason that I can see that Mitsubishi would give the two ECU's different part numbers. Other than that the AWD and FWD ECU's should be the same.
