So I just got my Talon, and I figure after I do all the initial servicing on it, I'm going to make my first mod a new exhaust. I shopped around my area a bit and found a guy who says He'll make me a custom 2.5" turbo back exhaust for $120. Sounds awesome to me, but is that a good price? Also, I'm going to have to buy my own muffler, as he doesn't carry many of them in his shop. I was hoping someone would know of a good performance muffler that's not uber expensive and doesn't sound like a fart can on a ricey honda. :nono: I'm going for a sleeper feel so I don't want my car screaming at everyone while I drive down the road.

For $120, sounds like hes not going to mandrel press it for you. You want a nice smooth flow (mandrel), not bent like normal exhausts.
Also, a good thing to consider is if hes including a flex section or even a cat. Did he look at the car or just say he could do it? There is some fabbing to get around the oil filter.

You can steal my idea and run with a Borla muffler, they arent too loud. If you want sleeper to the max then find one with the dual tips on it and no one will even know its aftermarket.

That is a good price. I wanted 3inch on mine and the shops around here wanted $350 using my piping. Luckely I bought the 3 inch off of my friend for $125 including the apexi muffler. I love the way mine sounds. Its loud when you get on it but cruising its not that loud which I like. Almost any muffler on a dsm sounds good. You can look into HKS or Apexi. YOu can buy a look a like apexi off ebay for like $120 or so.

I know that vibrant and magnaflow both make mufflers that look close to stock with the dual tips. Its hard to get the ricey sound out of a turbo DSM.

If you want quiet with good flow go with a Magnaflow. I have had good luck with them.

He did look at my car and he said he would include the 2.5" flex section. He's not including a cat, but I live in SC so I can run without one. I really don't even need a muffler but I don't want to sound like a total jerk. He said he doesn't have the equipment for mandrel bending but I can't find anyone near me who does. How important is it to have a mandrel bent exhaust? I thought that was only important for intake piping? I like the Idea of a borla muffler, I was actually looking at one today and it was only like 60-70 bucks.

If your are looking for a quiet yet deep growl which kicks in higher RPMS then consider a HKS muffler. The last time I was shpping for one I saw some on ebay. and does the exhuast that ## buddy is selling have a cat or a downpipe because $250 sounds a bit too high without that stuff. i got a quote for custome piping including a custom 3' downpipe for like $400 and it includes a high flow cat, however I'm in Canada.
Im using a HKS carbon TI cat back. It sounds amazing.

The guy is going to fabricate everything including the downpipe. He's going to bend everything onsite and then install it all for me. He's just going to run straight from the turbo to the rear muffler with nothing inbetween, 2.5 all the way. Is there some kind of special part I need to make sure he installs right after the turbo? I mentioned gradually expanding the width of the pipe from whatever it is now to the 2.5 I'm getting and he was onboard with that.

Is he fabbing you up an O2 housing also? Or are you running this off the O2 housing?

Just flange it after the O2 housing and run 2.5 all the way back. I wouldnt worrying about "expanding" it as it goes.
