I spun a bearing in my 7bolt a while back now and I have been getting ready to slam my sexy ass 6bolt motor in, seen here:

But I have a quick question. I wanted to just use my old t-too small (until after break-in, then comes the 50trim:D ) however I am worried about remaints of my bearings being in it... And the metal shavings definitely made their way to the head, so I wouldn't doubt there being pieces in the turbo. It has a little shaft-play too (both in/out and up/down, but not hitting the housing). So my question is, who would/wouldn't put this turbo on and why. My expectation would be that the filter would catch it, but I'm not too sure of myself on that. And recently my college screwed up and I have to pay for this semester, which means I have VERY little cash, I'm talking like... $1.24. :( I also don't want my new motor getting fugged up :notgood: . Your thoughts and inputs would be very much appreciated.

I would just drop the 50 trim and take it easy, why even take a chance with metal shavings in that turbo.

Team your post made no sense. If you tell him to why chance it, WHY in the #### would you put the 50 trim on? :WTF:

Dude, put the T25 on if theres a doubt you have shavings in the head...
Honestly you should hit every inch of that motor with brake clean or AIR to remove all those shavings you THINK are in there. I know I wouldn't chance it...

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough.:coy: I have a NEW motor (including the head). I don't have the 50trim yet, I was saving up for it til the whole school situation, now I am broke and need to get the car running.

So I have a fresh 6bolt and the t25 from the 7bolt with a spun bearing. Do you think I should just wait and buy a used t25, or maybe even save and get a 14b, or just go ahead and use the old t25?

Maybe I am missing something here. I think he thinks there maybe shavings in the t25 and it has shaft play. I would hate to think that nice new motor gets messed up by putting a turbo on it that may have shavings in it. Get the t25 checked before you use it. Maybe you can sell some parts for the cash to buy a 14b or a trade of some kind. Your new engine looks nice.

TSG59_Steve,
I'm sorry half the people in your thread have no clue whats going on.

My advice is to blow out/clean/flush that t-25 any way you can and use it for the break in. Save the 50 trim for after break in. Or also, like tsimom said, find another cheap-o turbo to use in the meantime. Also I would not be concerned about boosting on an engine break-in, as mentioned above. Theres a link in every thrad about engine break-ins that goes to some motorcylce guru's methods of breaking in engines. I'd use his recommendations if I were in your shoes.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck! And god damn is that a nice looking engine!!!

I have never once broken in a motor, unless that consists of 25psi on a 50-trim or 25psi on a 60-1. I've also never had a problem with any motor I've ever rebuilt or re-done (stock specs or forged motor). If you are in a bind for money, toss the old T-25 on there. The worse that will happen is, if there is ANY shavings (which I'm sure there isn't), it will drop to the pan, be picked up by the oil pump and FILTERED through the oil filter (just like your old motor filtered the metal shavings from the spun bearing, so it's unlikely there are metal shavings even in your turbo to begin with).

Most people I have ever talked to use a cheaper turbo for break in, if there is someway of remnents getting caught in the turbo you do not want to ruin that 1000 dollar turbo or however much it cost you.

use the T-25. Break it in with conventional oil. Run the car for 200mi. Then change oil and filter. Anything that was in the turbo is now gone. Also when changing the oil pour a qt in the engine with the plug out to try and flush left overs out.
