Vancouver,
Ok, this is odd. My car seems to be burning oil. For example today, fon a 60 km trip I lost half of my oil.Other times ,on level surface, i can see that there is about half of my oil gone, then i fill it up. Check the next day there is a shit load of extra oil in there so i had to drain it. even tho i did fill the car properly and when it was cold and sitting for about 4 hrs. thats what puzzles me. Happened few times.
Also about two nights ago i race the car for about 3 hrs. All hard driving. No oil lost at all. And today on the way to trip i checked the oil before i went and it was fine. When it was time to go back to thome i checked oil again and half of it is gone. WTF. Fill the oil again to where it should be, and yes the car was on leveled surface, just to come home and see that there is again extra oil in there.
Also there have been times that i added oil and not find any excess of it later.

What is going on? The car has no leaks, its not smoking. Any ideas what the problem is, or what i could do?Also if it was burning that much oil how would it be doing that, so much oil. bad valve seals, piston rings, what?
And there are no oil leaks at all. There is one on filter housing but its nothing. I run the car and check for leaks, none that i could see.
Thanks.

That's weird.

Don't be offended by the suggestions - I'm just trying to think of possible reasons...

Are you putting the dipstick all the way into the tube when you check? Are you wiping the oil off of the dipstick before you take a reading? The car is off?

Do you feel the dipstick hitting anything when you get about 4" from being "all the way in"? Maybe there's something in your oil pan that's causing the dipstick to bend out of the way, thus giving a bad reading. On a 2g, (based on my memory), the dipstick sticks into the block about 4". May be different on a 1g.

If it looks like you're low, you could try draining the oil and measuring it to see if it is actually low. That's kind of a pain, though, but it's an idea.

Is there any oil splattering inside the engine compartment? If the bay is dirty, you might clean it up a bit so that you could see signs of a leak. That wouldn't smoke.

I don't see how the oil level could go up without adding oil unless the dipstick isn't reading right for some reason.

Very odd.
