hey everyone... i have a post about smoke diagnosis. thinking its my turbo but just making sure... well did the comp. test and checked for shaft play... comp. was 150, 150, 148, 150. that is really good but the first time i did the test was 155, 150, 125, 150 so i did it again like 3 other times and the 150, 150, 148, 150 is what i got every other time. so i dont know if i let off to early or what. but i had all the plugs out, disconntected the coil pack, DID NOT disconnect the fuel injectors... I was doing it outside, running out of daylight and my hands were to freaking cold to pull the clips off. but i had the pedal to the floor, which i think shuts the injectors off during stratup on theses cars right? It was hard to feel for shaft play thus it being freezing out my fingers didnt work to well to fit into the tiny t25. there was some side to side but a tiny bit of in and out but barely any. i could only get my hand on the inlet side of the turbo. it was still on the car. im running stock boost on the car. its all stock but exhaust. the timing was off a tooth before. so i have done a t belt and WP about 2 weeks ago. (i dont drive the car right now no insurance) and the alternator is shot. it is over charging when i give it gas goes up to about 17-18 volts!!! i dont think those have anything to do with it just stating other problems just in case.
still think its the turbo? that was my first guess just want to make sure... oh and i have only 87octane in right now. i just bought the car off of my brother and he put it in by mistake. i dont think i get any blow by either my dipstick stays down in its home!
are those ok compr. numbers? they are all pretty much even but they all seem low. thinks its the gauge? its a 20 dollar harbor freight gauge...
thanks for reading!

Sounds like it's your turbo I went through the same thing my turbo had barely any play at all the seals just went bad. And you have in and out play which any of that is BAD even the slightest bit, check your UICP, intake hose, and IC for oil.

well it was hard to feel shaft play b/c the turbo was still on the car and it was freezing outside. my hands did not want to work right. how does my comp. sound? isnt 150 low? and i checked my licp hose and there wasnt really any oil. maybe a tiny bit in the intercooler. and i mean like the tinyiest bit. well i bought a 14b and have an install kit. (i had a 16g but it got messed up durning shipment.) and what about condensation coming form my exhaust manifold to head gasket? i thoguth it was oil but my borther thought it looked liek water. there were tiny little bubbles seeping out when i revved it. the mani bolts were loose but still a lil comes out. and i gotta get rid of that 87 octane gas got 1/8th left...

150 is pretty darn good, standard is 164, service limit is 121 so you should'nt worry about that and anyways that has to with your compression rings not your oil control rings. When does it smoke? Throw some octane booster in it or some good 'ol 94 octane.

sounds like your turbo...

as for the voltage... check all your grounds in the car... one may have gotten loose, which would cause your car to overcharge.... it usedto happen to me in my last car.... I had the battery in the but sometimes the ground plug would come out... then when I gave it gas, the volt meter I had would sometimes go up in to the 20's!!! Then again, it could be the voltage regulator... but I would check grounds before i replaced it....

I'd guess that it's your turbo as well, but since you don't have any oil in your intake, I'm not sure. If the turbo is going and it's leaking oil, you'll get more burning oil while boosting, but oil will still be lingering in your intake/exhaust which will burn off even after you let off the gas.

If you blow your turbo and don't really know what's happened, you can pump quarts of oil out of your motor (while belching a huge smoke-screen), so park it right away if that happens. Maybe the turbo swap will happen before the insurance company gets payed, and you'll find out if it was the turbo that way ;).

What color is the smoke, that has yet to be stated. You could be pushing oil out the exhaust side of the turbo only,i've seen it done on turbos before. So you could take your O2 housing off and check there as well.

Yea when my turbo blew it was burning most the oil on the exhaust side, it was burning a little on the intake but not near as much. As for driving the car I wouldn't risk it since you have in and out play.

yeah... obviously something bad has happened to make it smoke, so unless you want to risk spending more money, I would fix the problem first....

1 ounce of prevention is worth 10 lbs. of cure..... remember that :)

simplest solution is always the one that you never think of... haha... that should save you some money.... good for you... :)
