Any precautions to take when installing HKS ssqv?

I am just asking this question because I have had TWO Greddy Type RS's fail on me because of the diaphram not sealing properly and I do not want to return another BOV. I just got the HKS ssqv in hopes that this will be my final BOV. Is there any possible way to keep this BOV from leaking? In other words, can I do something right now, before I install it so that it will not leak? I am looking at the "C-clip" and I am looking at the instructions (which are in Japanese) and I see that they use some type of scissors with prongs on the end to "load" the C-clip onto the BOV, where can i get these "scissors"? Also, is it really necessary to use the air filter provided with the kit? Should I put some vaseline or RTV on the round gasket? Thanks a lot and sorry for all the questions

PS- I'm re-circulating

Right, the tool is called a snap ring pliers. There are two kinds. Some are two in one. What I mean by this is that some spread open when you squeeze the pliers and some close together. You want the one that squeezes together. Also you want to find one that has 90 degree tips on it. Otherwise you will scratch the bov and will have a hard time getting the ring in. You will want to lube the o-ring with some silicone for a better seal before you install the SSQ.

Here is a link to the one that can be used for external or internal use. You can see the different tips also.

Yeah it is welded on. And thanks for your guys' help- I just bought a recirculation piece off of extremepsi. I noticed it said that it only fits 1" ID hose and the stock hose is I believe 1 1/8" ID, so i guess i fill just try to find an eighth of an inch hose piece to tighten everything up nice and tight along the recirculation piece

I have been looking at pictures and i see that people are running with and without the "air filter". Is it really neccessary to run the air filter? I have heard that if you cut or splice anything in the BOV line that it will effect the Bov's performance, that is why i am skepticle about putting in the "air filter"

yea iseen the ebay knock off kind, those are the ones im worried about? Ive actually seen one included with an intercooler before that I was considering getting? Is it worth it or should I just get it from hks and spend the money. I dont want to buy twice you know what i mean.

What "air filter" are you talking about?

The onyl BOV that I know with that is the Blitz, and it wouldnt be a wise choice to do so if not running some kind of blow-thru setup.

But speaking in terms of the HKS SSQV, I dont know what filter you speak of, unless you are talking about that tiny in-line vaccuum filter that goes in between the bov and vac source?

If so a long time ago I had a real hks ssqv and did not install it (Because I didnt have it), and now I run a ssqv knock-off (why i the knockoff now? I traded my real ssqv for real type s which inevitably leaked) and put the inline filter on. Do I notice a difference, no, but by HKS instructions it should be. So why not.

read that thread, it is filled with a lot of good information from people running real and knockoff. myself included. I run the knockoff. Has been good.

Here's the picture of the "filter" that i was talking about. Do you think that i would effect the performance of the blow off valve?

To me, it seems there wouldn't be any difference in using that filter. If you try to look through it you can see light passing through it, so it isn't too restrictive.
