I want to run an aftermarket amp...what do I need to do?

I bought a new amp for my eclipse and I want to just run two subs I have off of it. I noticed the stock amp,(and I tried searching), does it jsut power the interior speakers? Will I have any problems running an aftermarket amp and the stock amp together? I am only powering the subs with aftermarket amp, not any of the interior speakers. Any help would be appreciated!!! Oh btw I have a Jensen VM9311TS reciever, and a Kenwood 7202? amp, and RF Punch stage 2 subs.

using a aftermarket amp will not allow you to use your dash tweeters.. why make sound when u can go fast? the stock radio is good enough for me.

The amp that you bought is for the subs, not your speakers.

Your reciever should have preamp outputs in the back, run a preamp cable to your amp and run it.

Using an aftermarket amp WILL allow you to use your dash tweeters/speakers. Unless wired wrong, or not knowing how to wire them at all, will they not work. Only when getting an aftermarket deck and using the deck leads/harness and bypassing factory amp will you lose the dash tweeters, and also sound inferior than stock. Also move the soundstage to the rear of the car, and if you have subs, it will overpower everything, which is the wrong way to have it.

So no you will not have a problem running the stock amp and aftermarket amp. This is actually what I would suggest, if you don't plan on upgrading the stock amp, because yes; the stock amp only powers the speakers. You have mentioned you have an aftermarket deck, if you already installed it, did you lose your tweeters? If so when you install that new amp to power the subs, you will see what I was talking about above. Get the MITAH adapter to use the stock amp with aftermarket deck. It WILL sound better/fuller than any aftermarket deck be a $50-400 one powering your speaks. I just know from experience.

I just submitted a writeup with diagram/pics and info on what I just talked about it. Hopefully it will be approved soon.

And why make sound when you can go fast? Why not, we all have different plans for our car, i too once thought stock radio was fine, things change. It's nice to have some bump in the car, especially if you drive it a lot.

I already can go fast enough to get into trouble. I am making sound because the stock reciever I have eats CDs(I have yet to get one back...) and only the casette works. Sooo I opted to spend a few hundred bucks and pick up a Jensen touch screen DVD player w/ipod interface so I can play all my music from there. I have plans as far as making the car go faster, I just wanted to be able to listen to my tunes while cruising thanks for the help guys! Just waiting for Fed Ex to drop my package off!
