transfer case

hey guys my tranny is in nuetral and my car still wont move do you think my transfer case is locked up or what?

Little more info please? How/when did this happen?

Are your brakes locked up?

If you push the car backwards instead of forwards will it move?

Have you jacked the car up and drained the transfer case to see if any shiny bits come out?

Will the front or rear tires spin seperately?

Lift the car and spin the wheels.Could be Rear end, tranfercase,or brakes try those 1st

yes i have jacked up the car and tires move freely but it wont go anywhere when i put it back on the ground i dont get it

Is the car driveable? What happens if you try to put it in gear and drive it?

well my car is not driveable at all i just got my tranny rebuilt and got it back in and i got everything for the drive train hooked up except for the clutch i just want to get my car in my garage to finish it so i can get all running again

Did you try spinning the tires WHILE it was up in the air? This is important.

If you just put your tranny back in you must have drained the transfer case. Was the oil really shiny or did you find any metal debris coming out?

Also, if you just rebuilt your tranny there is a good chance it won't want to shift into gear properly at first. It will need to spin a while until oil can get into all the nooks and crannies unless your mechanic took his time to lube everything up really well during the build.

yes i spun the tires up in the air and still doesnt want to move

That isn't the point. Spinning the tires isn't to make the car move, it is to help find out what is wrong. If the rear tires spin freely when turned but do not spin the front tires at (or vice versa) all you have a locked up transfer case. If one set of tires does not spin freely than that section of the drive train is locked up.

For all of this the car should be in neutral.
