Hi guys, So last night i took my oil pan off to drill the hole for my oil return and i found some serious gunky oil build up in the bottom especially by the oil drain bolt. The gunky build up looked like chared oil and in some spots it was like roofing tar and i'm not sure what to do from this point. I managed to clean out the oil pan completely with some ATF. Has anyone else had this problem. The car ran fine to me and it has a little over 60k miles. I dont think i was useing a bad brand of oil either (Royal Purple). If this build up is in the engine block how can i clean it out because i know i can use ATF for that.

Thats caused sludge. Most of it will be in your pan and stuck to your valve cover. This happens when people dont change their oil as often as they should. Just clean as much muck out as you can and use some engine flush the next time you do your oil, and keep up on the maintenance.
