Hey guys. i bought a t3/t4 turbo kit off of ebay to put in my tsi and i was just wondering about a few things. first of all let me explain my situation. my tsi is in the shop right now getting a new 6 bolt put in it but it is a completely stock rebuilt motor from ABC auto parts. i couldnt really afford the built ones from SBR but i still wanted a good one with a warranty. anyways, the t3/t4 kit will be put on after the engine is in and i was just wondering if it is safe to run the t3/t4 on stock internals? another thing is, i was looking at the manifold that i got with the kit and it has a flange for an external wastegate but the turbo its self is internally gated... do you think i should go with an external wastegate or just get a new manifold that doesnt have the flange...or find a blockoff plate for the flange. one more thing is... i live in jacksonville, FL and my talon is is Longiew,TX with my mom but when its done im gonna fly to get it. now the thing is, the fuel delivery system will be stock, but i will have the t3/t4 with a big front mount. can i safely drive my tsi 600 miles if i turn down the boost? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot guys.

Yes you can run it on a stock block. With a t3/t4 you can run it safe at around 10-12lbs on a stock fuel system. As far as the wastegate goes that really a choice of your own. Just depends on if you want to spend more money and the work you want done.

just to tell you about ebay turbo kits , mine evo3 16g turbo lasted for 1000 miles with like 10 psi , after it started smoking i took it out and the shaft play was horrible , so i wasted like 300bucks on nothing , and then and got MHI genuine Big16 g :) thats only my story , idk about t3/t4

dang... ive already got the turbo kit and it looks good, and ive read a lot of good reviews on here about ebay turbos... but also some bad ones... so i went ahead and got it. i guess its one of those things you just gotta learn your own lesson on. once i blow it ill get genuine parts, i just gotta learn the hard way. oh yeah, and the front mount says JDM... does JDM even make front mounts or do you think speed index just put it on there to make people like me think its really JDM. thanks for the replies so far... oh yeah and dont think im gonna just run that t3/t4 with no supporting mods... i just gotta be able to drive it back to FL. after i get it there and make a lil more cash, ill start with the mods. what are the pros and cons of an internal and external wastegate? i was looking at them and it just looks like an external is more work...

Holy S**T! This is an open forum, but who cares... Cody Lucero, This is Travis :) Good luck with the build. As for the wastegates, external wastegates are less prone to boost creep, and can be dumped into the atmosphere creating less backpressure, as apposed to dumping it back into the exhaust. I say go with the external if you can afford it later.

TRAVIS RICE. yeah dude i was gonna get an external wastegate because my manifold is flanged for it.... but i didnt really know the causes and effects of either one. so.... yeah i think im just gonna run the internal for right now until i get my evo 3 16g in the mail. im not gonna put that on till i get to jacksonville though. but anyways... can i drive with that t3/t4 for 600 miles with no supporting mods? i would think it would run way to lean... but thats just me.

you can do a little trick if your prefer. Disconnect the wastegate of the turbo , and leave it open so you will not build boost :) its gonna be a little bit slower than N/T talon , but well , your turbo will just spin for giggles :D (safe maybe , you wanna do it idk)

Don't worry about running it at stock boost levels. 10psi on any turbo should not be a problem. If you're worried bring a logger and watch for knock (you should have one already if you're upgrading turbos). You'll also want to watch the boost gauge (not the stocker) to make sure boost is staying at stock levels.

If the turbo is internally gated why not use the block off plate and upgrade if you have problems later on?

I would break the engine in first by driving it home to Florida. Make sure everything is fine with your motor first. You'll probably find that you also need a new o2 housing also with this "kit", I've noticed that they usually don't come with it.

yeah it sure doesnt come with it. the only thing about breaking the engine in, is that the original 14b that i had on the old motor is blown... so i only have the t3/t4. if i could pick up a real cheap 14b just for the trip i would, but i dont wanna spend a lot of money on one when im only gonna use it for 600 miles.
