hey guys, umm i got a really important question the question is::

Does my crankshaft pulley suposed to move??cause my belts broke :( and i dunno why?? so im thinking cause of moving crankshaft pulley but not sure :sosad:

Since many people confuse the two, ae you talking about the harmonic dampner crank pulley that drives the accessories or the crank sprocket for the timing belt?

The harmonic dampner is a common problem in both generation cars. The rubber between the hub and outer pulley separates allowing the pulley to slip, wobble, or fall off. If your is original it's very likely it's bad.

If it is the H.D. and you want to know more there are a ton of posts on the subject.

yeaaah that pulley which drives the accessories which is on the crank sprocket .It moves side to side which i think is really bad em i right??? cause i looked and i saw that the accessorie belts were touching that plastic thing i dunno how it calls :( i was driving the car and i saw all the light came on in my cluster so i thought that alternator belt broke, but when i looked closer i saw that i got no belts at all :(and the belts were in a good shape, cause i changed them like 2000 miles ago, im still thinking why those belts broke

Correct the harmonic dampner shouldn't move when you pull on it.

These are pretty expensive from the dealer so you'll want to order it from JNZ or Rockville Mitsubishi and save a few bucks. If it chewed up your timing belt cover you'll want to replace it too.

Steve

ok so i come up that i need a new harmonic damner, should i get the aftermarket one,or the stock would be better? and what kind are the differences between stock and aftermarket harmonic damners? thanks for any input

Ok i just got my Harmonic balancer today from a mitsu dealer,i read some posts about the harmonic balancers and thei cost, most of the pople bought those for 100$ and a lil more, but i dunno why mines was so expensive i paid 187$ ,so but my real question is when i will take my old pulley do i have to do anything with the timing after i install my new pulley??? and what is the best way to take the old pulley out of it place without demageing anything thanks for any input

just undo the 4 bolts holding it on and you are good to go.

if you have a buddy to help, have him/her put your car in 4th gear, then all they need to do is keep thier foot on the brake ,and you just crack those bolts loose. easy.

The 4 bolts are easy, sometimes getting the pulley to come off the roll pin that indexes it to the crank sprocket can be a bear. You can yank, pull and pound and the pulley just sticks to the sprocket.

Steve

so hummering the pulley would demage something to the inside of engine or i can just use the metal bar and hummer for pulling the pulley out

i just took mine out today, the 4 bolts came easy, and just a few taps with the rubber hammer and off it came, no prob. dont be afraid to be agressive, as long as its rubber you hit it with. I think i am going to go with the fluid dampner just so i dont have to worry about it "down the road"(pun?)

Remove the 4 12mm head bolts along with both ac and alternator belts and if the pulley doesnt just slide of,f come back and ask more questions. Until then, go give it a try.

ok i replace the harmonic balancer, put all belts back and then i was trying to start the car,but it wouldnt start,i did it like 7 times,it tryes to catch a lilbit but wont start,i took out my spark plugs and they were all wet i mean really wet, then i looked at my pistons,i dont know how they suposed to be alighned but my st1 and 4th got the same hight and 2nd and 3rd got the same hight is ii good??? Any input would be good

the car was running good before the pulley got seperated,so i didn't do anything, just change the pulley put new belts back i started car i did couple turns and it didn't start and booom all my cylinders are flooding :( the funny thing happened i took the sparkplug out off and i told my dad to watch the spark,so he touched the wire to the exhaust manifold and when i turn the engine couple times the fire shoots out of the cylinder (it was huge) and then flames started comming out of the cylinder for about 10 sec i never saw this thing before to any car LOL

Do you really think the crank pulley has anything directly to do with you flooding. Come on.

You might have wacked something with a belt as it was coming off but whatever the problem it's a indirect relationship. So start with the usual causes for flooding like the ECT sensor wires or a bad injector. Pull your plugs and get a new set, hook up your logger and see what unusual is going on.

well i try to look at some more deatils tomorrow, is there any other ways to see whats going on without the logger cause i don't have it yet :(
i went to some mechanics today and i told them that i turn the crank by the wrench and they told me that i messed up the timing, but if you saying that it has nuttin to do with that so that means that those mechanics are Shoemakers LOL))) but when i turned the crank the whole thing (camgears and all those things that timing belts touches were spining so you prob right, the same thing happened to my brother talon his pulley got seperated and the belts broke, plus the lover timing cover got chiped in alil peaces, and those peaces got through the timing belt,so the timing belt jumped and the all 16 valves got bented, one of them stock in a cylinder so he's rebuilding his engine right now :(

does anybody knows where the ECT sensor located?????

Larger, 2 prong sensor on the lower half of the thermostat housing. The connector is supposed to have a rubber boot on it but that may be gone already on your 90. They tend to crumble with age.
