Long time reader first time forum member. i never really had any trouble w. my 92 eclipse 1.8L. got good gas and i didnt race it much cause i knew i didt have much hp to brag w. and the only little problem i had was a tiny oil leak... it was about a drop a day but i checked my oil daily to be sure i wasnet losing more than i thought.
then all of the sudden im driving home from a friends house after droping some1 off and the engine starts to Knock real hard whenever i pressed the gas to hard... so i try to keep the rpms low and it worked for about a mile then while i was sitting at a stop light it stalled i turned it back on and it knocked hard enough to make the whole car shake... so i got off the light as quick as the car would let me and pulled off to the side.... poped the hood and waited a while... tried to turn it on again and all it did was rev up like it normaly did then as the rpms went down to and idle it knocked real hard and real fast and got slower and slower and then it stalled...
im positive i blew the motor. the question is i want to know how this happens all of the sudden and y?
and i already found a 2.0l nt online in my price range and all i need to no is if the ECU or wiring harness will need to be replaced or could i use the same 1 from the 1.8l ive read that the motor pretty much falls right in except for the driverside has a piece that has to be replaced which i could pull from a junk yard
so if yall got any advice bout the ECU or why that hapened to the 1.8l let me know

1. It didn't happen all of a sudden. Like you said it would leak oil here and there. Also, how many miles did it have?

2. You need a new ecu, wiring harness, a 6/7 bolt flywheel depending on the motor you are buying (the 1.8 have a 5 bolt flywheel).

Far as I know you have to change everything. Harness, guage cluster, ecu and I believe motor mounts too. There is a lot of work to de done. For a lot of people who want to change a 2.0 to a 2.0 turbo many just sell the 2.0 and buy a 2.0 turbo to save a lot of fustration.

Also, you will need a new gauge cluster. And it will need to be rewired, the wiring isn't that hard. Just get a manual. I helped my buddy do the same swap. Reply w/ any ?s no PM because other people may search for the same info.

well it has 113,000 miles on it
umm its a 1.8L and im putting in a NON TURBO 2L... i cant afford to have a 2L turbo right now
i no i can use the same tranny
i no the mounts r the same except for the top driverside... bracket?
and so far the answer is yes that i do need to replace the 1.8L ECU w. 1 from a 2L
and the motor description that it says online... the 1 im buying says
