ok i have an 93 TSI and i have a blown piston and valves in cylinder #1 with the rest of the cylinders looking fine. People have been saying to me that i should buy a low mileage used JDM engine instead of buying new pistons, new valves, and honing the cylinder walls off from valve and piston shavings. A shop quoted me at 2.6k for the JDM engine and 900 for labor so a total of 3,500 for a running car. What do you guys think i should do?

You could get yours rebuilt much cheaper than that. Or, you should be able to find a 6 bolt in good shape for $1500 or less and a motor swap should not cost more than $600 in labor. Whoever quoted you those prices are way high. I would definitely check around before you had them do anything on your car.
