hi

when i got my car i bought it from a guy who fixed it up for his daughter. he put a slightly used engine in it directly ordered from Japan and some other stuff with the tranny and shifting.
either he lost the papers for the engine or something because he doesnt know what kind it is. he knows it is a few years after the car it being a 1991.
after having the car and driving for 2000 miles i changed the oil. the filter was a japanese Hyundai make. i got the new filter from auto zone and thinking the engine was a 1993 or thereabouts i go the respective filter. it didnt fit. i ended up getting an S2808 size filter.
what year model is that for? is it 1g or 2g?
as far as engine ID numbers where would they be on the block? i saw a number near the oil filter but couldnt make it out for lack of light. i saw another number under "DOHC 16" plastic cover. it said 97.11.12 02:54. is that the date the block was made or what?
any help would be appreciated. pictures of a 1g and 2g engine that are unmodifide would be nice too.

thanks

If it was a true J-Spec motor it would be a cyclone. Not sure about a NT version. My guess is either he is BSing you or it really is a hyundi motor :X Why would you go to the length of getting a j-spec motor imported and not have it be the faster, turbo engine. It isn't like the japanese version is more reliable :/
