I need to know what the correct term is for a transmission to engine gasket or Will a tube of gasket maker work?

I don't know about the 420 A's, but there is no "gasket" between the motor and trans. of a 4g63, unless you count the starter plate.

There should be no reason to use any gasket between the transmission bellhousing and the engine -- there is no fluid in the clutch/bellhousing area. It should be bolted together, along with the starter plate in place.

Ultra gray RTV should be used on the transmission if it was dissassembled and rebuilt. But it doesn't sound like you did that.

Ditto there is no gasket between the bellhousing and the block on any car I have ever worked on. Well there is the dust shield but half the time the thing is bent like aluminum foil and doesn't even seal perfectly but there is still no harm done.
