Well, I want to upgrade my fuel pump to a 255 (I currently have a 190 on my car and I think it took a crap).
So, I'll need a fuel pressure regulator as well. Are there any cheap, good quality ones out there or will I have to pay $150+ for one? Price is kind of an issue here but if it wasn't what regulator would you guys recommend?
Also, what benefits does a fuel pressure regulator bring besides adjusting fuel pressure?

I would go with an Aeromotive, Import Evolution sells the whole kit for $195, here's the link:Import Evolution
The main benefit of running a AFPR is fuel overrun over the stock FPR. Overrun is occured when you install a high flowing pump and the stock regulator can't keep up, causing you to run rich all the time, but mostly at idle or low rpm's.
Look around the parts catalog on this site and get an idea on what you want to spend. The Aeromotive is proven to work, and can handle a high HP motor.

When I talked with the guys at AMS they told me a AFPR isnt needed unless you are making over 500whp. With that said, I have been running a 255 walbro for 2 years and have no problems, I even have it rewired.

What's your gas mileage like though, Zilo?

I have a rewired 255 and I gained 5-10mpg when I installed my afpr LOL.

While I agree that every car is different and yours "may" be running "fine (although I'm skeptical), most DSMs running a 255 pump WILL require an AFPR in order to run CORRECTLY through-out its operating range. I would suggest logging the car to confirm, but that's your call.

The problem is at idle and cruise when the "too-small" orifice in the OEM FPR can't pass the added volume of fuel and causes the car to run dramatically rich. It isn't as much effected during WOT as the injector at higher duty cycles pass enough fuel to offset the issue.

IMO, no matter if you're using a 190 or 255, get an AFPR.

my 0.02.

While the guys at AMS are pretty smart their opinions are still that. I look forward to seeing logs of your fuel and manifold pressure while you drive the car around on the street.

Until you can provide data, I'll have to go with what I've seen and that is a walbro 255 l/h pump overruns the stock FPR.

LOL You could've bought at least 5 AFPRs in the two year period considering the cost of gas.

Are the FPR's that bolt onto the end of the rail any good. Seems like if they worl well then they are a great option but nobody on here seems to run them

i have the fullthrottle / charge air racing bolt on on mine and love it. so much simplier and cleaner then doing ss lines and mounting the regulator somwhere else
