Is there any drawback on putting a full 3" exhaust on a stock 14b non-ported w/ stock o2?

Not really, you will open it up and will put less back pressure on the engine. If you plan on going further with your modifications then i would say that the 3" is perfect, however if you are just going to do an exhaust then I would reccomend a 2.5".

how come the 14b can creep, yet my t25 has probs holding 15 psi til anything much beyond 5000 rpm? i know its above stock level, and it can hold about 11-12 to redline but wont hold more. can a 14b hold more than stock boost to redline? if so, why ?

Bigger exhaust wheel. I have seen 14b's take cars into the 12's on stock injectors even. Flows more lbs/min and holds better.

Only drawback I could think of is boost spike &/or creep.....but don't let that discourage you.

its a pain in the ass LOL. i was running 3" megan racing downpipe, no cat, 3" custom built exhaust w/ a magnaflow muffler, on stock manifold and stock o2 housing on my 2G gsx.. and i was creeping ungodly... ported the turbo, manifold and o2 housing. worked perfectly.:thumb:

t25 doesnt have enough *emmmfff* so to speak to carry it past 5k rpm. . thats just were it drops off at. 15psi when i ran my t25 at 17psi held 17psi til about 5k and then drop to almost 12psi at redline...

I have an APex-i 3" DP and catback with t25 and it will hold 15 psi for about 1 sec and fall off to about 11-12 psi. I get fuel cut too but only when its cold out!!! Noticed spool time improved alot though. All in all if you are going to mod to make more power than just go to the 3" so you dont have to buy twice!!!:dsm:

what else did you have to support 17psi? could it be run with the stock fuel sys? from what i've seen the t25 "runs out of steam" beyond 15psi. did you notice any gains running it at that psi?
thanks for the info on the t2small, i never knew why technically the 14b is better than the t25. i always just knew the 14b was better.
maybe santa is nice to me this year and I won't have to settle for my car pulling up to 5k and nothing much after that. I have been pretty good this year... :sneaky:

it lasted about a week or so on 17psi on the t25... then it blew at the 1/8 track ended up running 9.9 ( i ran 9.6 stock ) so yea i was pissed. IMO dont waste your time w/ 14b upgrade unless you blow ## t25 before u get the cash for a 16g. . i loved my ported 14b while it lasted dont get me wrong but you can make more power w/ the 16g. 2Gs are just to heavy for the 14b, than again i have an automatic so mid 13s was best on a 14b..... wish i could back that up w/ a slip but military killed me this year w/ mini deployments

pretty sure I'm going to wait and get the 16g, although buying a used 14b for cheap is tempting. just to try it out for the hell of it.
ah well, choices choices choices....
thanks
:dsm:

If you can get a good one cheap, a 14b is no slouch. I maxed mine out pretty well last summer and pushed 23lbs to 6500. I didn't get a chance to make any runs before the end of the summer, but it pulled hard enough in 2nd and 3rd to turn the wiper blades on. Can't wait until this coming summer. I'm shooting to trap 118-120 with the 16g, a 75 shot and a set of slicks.:rocks:

Also i have a upc stainless mani, would that greatly increase my chance of boost creep still running on stock 14b and o2, I have plans on porting the turbo, but not at the moment b/c of fundings. And thanks for all the good replys.

Is it worth it at all to port the t25? I have my car apart right now and am going to port the o2 housing and possibly the exhaust manifold. Would I see any benefits at all porting the t25, at least with spike and creep issues?

a 14b is a decent turbo if you don't have really high hp goals. I was boosting 23 psi on pump gas and water/meth injection with stock inj at 75 duty cycle. Pulled damn hard too. And it can take you into the 12's, but the best i could get was low 13's because of my shitty stock clutch and poor driving skills...LOL

No just the exhaust really effects the creep. I would not install 3" exhaust untill you port the turbo. Creep makes it impossible for a good tune and damages your motor.

How could creep affect the tune(this i mean by what can't be tuned properly or poorly) and damage the motor and also, how bad would the damage be? And another thing that I've been thinking about is that how does it affect my performance to have a good exhaust system from the header all the way to the back vs running stock intercooler piping with stock intercooler. I know this seems like silly questions but I'm just trying to foresee the negatives of one upgrade vs another, pros and cons about them and what to expect, and also how to fix the problem! And again thanks for the good reply's!!

if your going to run a 3" exhaust w/ a 14b or 16g have the turbo ported(wg flapper area mainly) port exhaust manifold, ported o2 housing(2gs) and 3" dp and 3" exhaust and thats very free flowing. FMIC helps out alot from the stock sidemount IC.

this was my setup on my 2g automatic gsx

3" intake pipe
ported 14b
ported 2g manifold
ported 2g o2 housing
3" megan racing downpipe
3" exhaust
fmic 2.5" short route piping
evo8 fuel pump
550 injectors
safc w/ data logger
20psi... ran very very nicely and pulled hard

Did you ever dyno that?
Im curious approx. how much power the 14b will be making on my car once I start turning the boost up .

I know its rated to be able to make 300hp at 21psi I believe but thats exaggerated in my opinion, ( as in a perfect tune with perfect engine with all mods sized for that set up. )

i was told 260-270 max on a 14b... but i'd like to see, would have liked to make it to a dyno to see what mine sat on at 20psi.. but the exhaust wheel melted off and is MIA.. out the exhaust... yeaa ha

A 3" exhaust isn't a requirement for a 14b, but if you plan on going any bigger turbo wise, then I would definitely suggest getting a 3".
