a thought occured to me. they( the car industry ) have made this red coolant as a better product than the green. so if its better can i use it in my car. i know you can't mix them, but with doing a good long flush on the rad. system, could'nt you fill it with red. i've asked around a bit and 1/2 say you can, and 1/2 say you can't. why and why not?

don't do it!

The red 'dexcool' coolant has made a lot of problems for GM and others.. it apparently eats up gaskets pretty good and just doesn't offer up the protection that standard coolants do.

I read an article, can't remember from where, but it talks about cavitation in the water pump (pockets of air forming from the spinning impellar) as soon as these form the aluminum oxidizes.. green coolant offers much faster protection of this corrosion and forms a better barrier against this... I'll post more information if I find it..

Alright here's that article I was talking about, basically what I said but much more in depth: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3828/is_200408/ai_n9453107

Rep points for VanIsleDSM... maybe this will bring him back to 0?

Yeah, Systems designed for the orange stuff stay orange, systems designed for the green stuff stay green. If you would like to get into the chemistry of it all, let me know.

thanks drivemusicnow.. unfortunately I didn't lose them for not being helpful or bad info.. I think it was for talking back a little much.. which kinda sucks cause although my attitude can get pretty abrasive sometimes I don't want people to think what I say is BS just cause I have a red bar.. ha. when you hover over it with the mouse it should say "VanisleDSM is pretty helpful but not always nice about it" :p

Dexcool was used by Chevy/GMC for a couple of yrs until they found out that the trans in Dexcool eats the plastic radiators up from the inside out. Dex is a mixture of coolant and trans fluid. When I worked at the Chevy Dealership I changed many of rads becuase the cores were leaking where the dexa had corroded and eaten up the plastic.
Dexcool:notgood: :beatentodeath:

here is some pics of what it does
