Would anyone know of a hub or steering wheel kit or something that brings the wheel a few inches closer to the driver's chest?

In order to work the pedals right, I have to sit far enough back that my arms are almost fully extended at the wheel. I'm sure others have this problem, its not comfortable and it sucks for going 'round bends :notgood:
Only other thread about this was about modifying the steering column, which isn't very practical.

Thanks in advance,

Ari

Actually sitting all the way back where your arms are fully extended is for looking cool :p , go look at one of shep's in car videos and see what the proper driving position should be.

Heh I've seen his, and I've watched especially how the f1 guys have the wheel closer for leverage, and also the race cars i've driven, the wheel is a good 4 or 5 inches closer than in this car. I want mine to be a good bit closer, not the stretch-arm-gangsta' look ;)

EDIT: Can't move the seat up because a) not adjustable, and b) my knees would hit the wheel. Right now feet are happy, arms are not.

Almost all after-market hubs will extend the steering column two or three inches. None are sold "for" 2Gs because of the airbags, but any 1G hub fits. You'll have do to some dicking with the wiring for the horn and cruise control control.

yeah i had this problem also, being 6'5" can have its down sides. My main problem was the steering wheel rubbing on my knee. So i bought a steering wheel and hub kit off ebay for 65 bucks. Brings the steering wheel down a little and also maybe a little closer. The 2gs are the only ones that i have a hard time fitting in, ive owned a 1g and a 2000 eclipse gt and both were great but the darn 2g is smaller inside. Guess you have to sacrafice weight and comfortablity for looks on the 2g.

The net effect is about the same as stock spacing. The hub is about 3 inches but when you replace the stock wheel with its sever dish, with one that's fairly flat, the distance will be about the same.

On the other hand, if you go the new wheel/hub route, I don't see why you couldn't get longer wheel mounting screws and add an inch or so spacer. A smaller replacement wheel will also allow you to move a bit closer with less knee bumpage.

If you already have an aftermarket steering wheel you could try putting on those quick release hubs as they bring the steering wheel a little closer, maybe an inch or so.

That seems like a good way to go...is there any problem with screw stregnth or does it not really matter?

You may want to use kind of good ones.

LOL hadn't thought of that :p

Some of the companies who make quick release setups also sell spacers.

Thanks Mavisky, I'll check that out. Thanks everyone for your help :thumb:
My friend is selling me a MOMO wheel with that felt padding on it for super cheap, so I'll be using that with some spacers.
