So I am at the point that i would like to get a dattalogger for my 98 GST. I tried searching in here for opinions on what you guys think of these loggers. So I hope this can help everyone out that is at the beginning stages like i am and in need of a logger.

So, There is the (OBDIILoggers.com) datalogger that is $150. It logs almost everything but i couldn't find out if it logs Knock. If any of you guys have one and could let me know that would be great.

There is the MMCD which i am not sure if it is for a 2g also, which it doesn't say on the site. Or I am an idiot.

Then there is the Greddy PRofec E-01 which is expensive but it is also a boost controller. It says that it can log 3 channel's. Whether it can log knock i am not sure. Does anyone have this product and how does it work.

There is also the Greddy Informeter. I am not familiar with this at all and what it does, it sounds like it is just a datacenter that is also a logger. I don't know if it logs knock either.

And i think there are some home made loggers out there and some off of ebay. I am not sure about them.

The reason I am posting this is because the more searched the more uncertain i became in my decision of what logger to get. So if you guys have these loggers or have experience with them I would appreciate your feedback and I am sure a lot of other people in my position would be also. Thank you guys.:dsm:

MMCD will work on a 2g, its cheaper but will require more effort to obtain an OBDII to Serial cable. Otherwise go with the PocketLogger for $125 + the cost of a palm. Both options will log knock as well as:

Abbreviation, Description, Value
RPM, Engine RPM, RPM Numerical Value
INJD, Injector Duty Cycle, Percentage
KNCK, Engine Knock, Knock Numerical Count
O2-R, O2 Sensor - Rear Bank V6 (The only O2 on I4), Voltage
TPS, Throttle Position Sensor, Throttle Position Percentage
TIMA, Timing Advance, Degrees
O2-F, O2 Sensor - Front Bank V6, Voltage
COOL, Engine Coolant Temperature, F or C (depending on prefs)
AIRT, Air Intake Temperature, F or C (depending on prefs)
BARO, Barometric Pressure, Bar, InHg (depending on prefs)
INJP, Injector Pulse Width, Time (milliseconds)
BATT, Battery Voltage, Volts
FTRL, Fuel Trim Low,
FTRM, Fuel Trim Mid,
FTRH, Fuel Trim High,
FTO2, Fuel Trim O2,
MAFS, MAF Signal / Airflow, Shown in Hz
ACEL, Acceleration enrichment,
FLG0, Flags 0, TDC PS AC Neutral IPS Switches
FLG2, Flags 2, AC FPS BCS Status
EGT, EGT Temperature, F or C (depending on prefs)
ISC, ISC stepper position

The parameters are described at http://www.vfaq.com/TMO/ or http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.ph...arams&type=dsm

This is not correct. There is no logger program, other than DSMLink that can log knock on a 2g.

Half of the other stuff in the above quoted post cannot be logged either.

Also, on a 2g, the airflow number is give in lbs/min, not Hz.

Follow this link to the actual list of things that can be logged on a 2g:

http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=params&type=obdii

There are 2 things in that list that you can't log on our cars......MAP and Fuel pressure

Also, MMCD is not compatible with 2G. Check out MMCDlogger.com website, it specifically says it is for pre-OBD2 vehicles.

To OP: OBDlogger.com has great customer service and a complete solution, however the logging software is freeware: OBDGauge and PalmStein. The former is very slow and buggy, and the latter is not much faster. Both have been out of development for a long time and show it...but they are free.

Pocketlogger by most accounts is the best software out there, but it's pricey and you have to get your own pda.

I have OBDlogger, but I wish I'd have bought the pda off Ebay and went with Pocketlogger instead. Actually, I wish I'd have went with DSMlink from the beginning because its sample rate is so fast, windows compatible, and can actually see knock for 2Gs.
