I just bought a 1992 Plymouth Laser AWD 5-spped. I test drove the car and knew that the 3rd gear schyncro is going out. But I bought it anyway. And now is where I big problems. While driving, the car will not go into 4th. And it will not downshift to second sometimes either. But sometimes it will. And I try to put it in reverse and the shifter goes down but not into gear?

Im new to the dsm's.....Someone please help...Thanks

sounds to me like the clutch isnt fully coming off some of the time, and your syncros are shot, more than you had thought. Id get that fixed asap before any more of the tranny goes.

You might want to check your shift cables (under center console) for proper setting. Also check your hyd clutch fluid level, if its low, dont just top it off, find out why and resolve the problem. Check for possible leaks in the hyd sys, and you might also need to bleed it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Another thing you can check is to see if the little rubber bushings on the end of the cables that hook to the transmission are shot. I was having trouble putting my transmission into gear ( mostly due to age, 180,000 on it ) myself and replacing the rubber bushings have made the shifting on the car much better.

Thanks for all the advice....1 more question...Someone told me it might be the shift forks?? Could this be it?
