Deep River/Barrie,
My buddy has a AT 95 N/A Talon
There is a loud vibration coming from straight underneath the center console/ drivers & passenger kick panel area. The noise sounds a lot rougher and louder when at a stop sign/light in 'Drive'. Almost as if the Engine was running without balance shafts at certain times. In Neutral, it does not make any noise. All other gears are fine. Sometime it will make the noise when the A/C is on in 'park'. so im thinking maybe it could be A/C related. Or possibly Tranny? The shifter shakes a lot when in vibration.

Any ideas?

The description makes the problem sound like it is a motor mount, possibly the rear.

Does the engine "jump" when it is shifted between the gears? Watch from a safe spot with the hood up while someone else shifts the car back and forth from park to drive, then park to reverse. If it jumps around inspect the motor mounts.

Besides the motor mounts, check the exhaust for clearance from the body of the car or any loose exhaust parts.

Thanks a lot for the reply.
So today i checked. first i checked heat shields. nothing. then i noticed a ticking from the head. Lifter tick?
Checked the mounts. nothing. Then my buddy decided to lock the doors on us by accident. so we had to take ye ole hanger wire and open it. no luck. we had to call CAA because all his windows were closed 100%. and we tried on at the bottom of the window on the lower gasket to try to catch the latch. no luck.

In conclusion. We still need to check how the mounts react at different shifting times. I noticed the clamp was rusted out before the muffler. resulting in a low muffler hang. Should i jus start trying to diagnose lifter tick? or fix clamp too?

Fix that exhaust clamp first. Through my experience, exhaust rattles can be very erratic.

It sucks that you guys locked yourselves out, as a rule of thumb I always have the windows rolled down when working on my car. For extra precaution sometimes I leave the hatch popped.

I believe the lifter tick to be a seperate issue, but over the web it is difficult to tell sometimes. My money is still on the mounts and the exhaust for now.
