Can you view MMCD logs in Open Office?

I just got my cable biult and did my first run. To be honest, I didn't think it would work. It took two tries biulding the cable and I'm super impressed with my self. Now I just need a cheep way of displaying my logs other than Excel. I'd like to use Excel, but I don't have a copy.

Any ideas?

I know you can load them in a... CSV format... It had three letters in the format name I know that. But I don't really know what that means. I was thinking maybe it was a format use in Open Office..?

I have the MMCD Tools. When I gave viewing a try, even though I had a pretty good idea it would'nt work. I recived an error because thr progrsm could not find Excel. If there is a way around this, I could use a little help on the process of telling mmcd tool to look for "---" instead of Excel; unless it will do it on its own.

Thanks

Yes you can.

Down load Open Office and install the full version if you need the extra word programs and what not or do a custom install and only load the program you want; in this case Open Office "CALC".

I'm not sure how MMCD works normally with a true Excel program to load off of but when using Open Office, MMCD tools will not open your logs for you. After you sinc your Palm with your PC, you will have to open, Open Office Calc, click on the file menu, click open, my documents, MMCD, then the log date you wish to view.

So far this is working for me.

Hope it helps someone out there, it would have helped me.

Ah Open Office. Was once a great Office suite, before SunMicro bought out StarOffice back in 99. Since then the program has gone down hill, become a huge memory draw, and buggy. Still is the largest and most well supported office suite released under the GPL licensing.
I'm sure as you found out it does read CSV(comma separated value). It is a common text form and most spreadsheet apps should let you read it.
Unfortantely, there isn't many other "free" spreadsheets or office suites available for Windows. I figured I would offer an alternative though. Gnumeric, http://www.gnome.org/~mortenw/gnumeric/gnumeric-1.6.3-win32-2.exe . I recommend it just because it comes with a good list of functions, it's free, it's fast. I've been using this for years on my Linux computer, and they've recently come out with a Windows version. If you do try it, let me know how you like it.

Good Luck!

I dont condone this but... :shhh:

Fire up Azureus, log into bitsoup, search for office, download and enjoy in less than 30 minutes :thumb:

haha, shhh. That's too easy.
Besides who really wants to use a Microsoft product?? We need to ween ourselves off of there horrible products, and realize there are other options.
haha, I've been a strong advocate against them for quite some time now though, so that statement may be a little biased.

Aswell as I. However, because of linux's lack of third party support, game support, driver support; I'm forced to stay on windows.

Yes...Very much so ROFL

I wish aftermarket parts were like software one could simply leach from a P2P network. Damm think about it??? If that were the case i would be downloading a Magnus longblock as we speak...And a shep trans too! You know, like StarTrek but instead of "Computer: Earl Gray HOT" it would be "Computer: Tubular headers and PTE 50 trim". HEHEHE

Forgive me but that was the neard in me :tease:

Actually gaming, 3D rendering has come a long way in Linux. I clock better times on almost all 3D rendering in Linux then I do in Windows. A lot of bigger games have versions cross compiled to linux, or run through an emulator, and again it runs faster. I can run a full version of Windows faster in a VM on Linux, then I can booting up Windows alone.
Driver support? Well "drivers" aren't quite the same here, but I will say that Linux has support for almost most the new high end graphics card, Has full 64bit support, wireless, etc etc.. It has blown up in the past few years, and It's growing rather rapidly.
Do you know Microsoft's website runs off a BSD Unix server?? Funny they don't even use there own product.

Forgive me but that was the neard in me
hahah, Yes, yes it was.
It's alright we all have one.

And If anyone's interested, I'd recommend OpenSuSe Linux, it has a good package compilation and it is very user friendly and easily configurable.
You can download it > http://en.opensuse.org/Download
But, the biggest drawback of linux, is It does take a little bit of brains to work it all out. It's not as simple as just put the CD in and it works like Windows. But unlike windows, It actually works, haha.
