Which one would be better for a street car ? What are the spool times for them(I plan on going bb) ? I want to make around 400awhp. If anyone used both of them, please list your experiences with them.

Thanks, djs

currently i have a 50 trim in my 98 and im loving it although its not a BB version it still spools up nice and has amazing top end. the 60 trim is more of a drag turbo in my opinion( although still streetable) as well the 60-1 is meant for big boost 25+ so unless you got a nice fresh build or a new motor it really isnt neccesary as you wont be running the boost the turbo likes.

as for spool up my 50 trim non BB spools up at aroudn 3350 with a lightened flywheel (bb versions are at 3000~3100) as compared to the 60-1 3600rpm with BB

yea, 50 trim seems like a better trubo for the strret, but im just afraid that if I get a 50 than i will want more. Maybe I should just go bb 60-1 ? Anyone running a PTE BB 60-1 ? How do you like it on the street ?

get the pte 50trim. spools fast and capable of the power you want to make.

Your 50 trim hits full boost at 3350??

My 50 trim (non BB) used to spool at about 3800-3900 with the Stock IM/Cams, but now it hits 24psi right around 4300 in 3rd.

My friends Dual BB 60-1 spools slightly slower.

I'd say research this, but general concensus will be the 50 trim as it WILL do 400hp with the supporting mods while having fantastic street manners.

But you have to ask YOURSELF if you think 400hp is too little or good enough. Ever been in a 400hp street car? It's fun as all get-out. If you are going from the T-25 (guessing by the lack of anything in your profile) I would NOT suggest getting ANYTHING bigger. You'll have a LOT to do as is.

Maxing out a EVO 16g will put your car in top notch shape for having a good time. And by this i mean all the suspension mods and motor mods and everything. Now a 50 trim which is a leeeetle bit more with the power will pretty much take it all to max out. In the end you'll have a no BS mofo of a car. You will go with no less than a DSMLink if you are wise, and modifications to the head will pay off. So in the end where are you at?? You'll have a car that should be ready for anything by the time that 50 trim is maxxed out. Any bigger turbo will just need some bigger injectors, the correct exhaust manifold and wastegate setup, and a built bottom end. That 50 trim is pretty much top of the line for average joe and his average car.

Plus... if all you have is a T-25 right now... then you aren't ready for that 60-1. Gool luck man!! :thumb:

I have the PTE 5031bb and love it. This is one of the best street turbos and w/ supporting mods your goals are very achievable. Start buying all the supporting stuff now. Who knows maybe PTE will improve their turbos even more by the time you are ready to buy. I got to get my car to the dyno to get some fine tuning w/ the wideband and I will hopefully be satisfied. I guess after i hit the track I will want more. If you want a streeteable turbo that kicks ass this is it!

I have a PTE 5031e (50 Trim) and I love it. It is a great street turbo. I can take any stock car I have came accross, I put a C5 to shame about 1 hour ago on only 20lbs of boost. It is a great turbo for pump gas also. I would hate to tune this setup with a SAFC, I run DSMLink++++:thumb:

OK, so it looks like I will go with the PTE BB 50 trim. Hopefully it will be fast enough for me:cool: Just wondering, guys that are running 50 trims, how do you like them ? Do you think it has enogh power or do you wish you would of went bigger form the start ?

If 400whp is all you want than you should be good. In my eyes any turbo is streetable after seeing my buddys cars. One just got done building his 2.4 with FP 3x cams(.430 intake lift) and a holset turbo. This is a street car and performs well. Im surprised how well DSMlink can idle the cams.

I think a great deal depends on the VE of the motor. On a 2.3 with cams, stock head, stock intake and stock throttle body, I see 46 lbs/min at 25 psi which doesn't leave much more headroom before I'm off the map and making hot air. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with a 60-1 or a 35R since I can run bigger boost levels without generating tons of heat. I think on a 2.0, a 50 trim is perfect and while I love mine and it'll be enough to meet my goals, I would have rather had more headroom for growth so that I could run 30-32 psi.

Then again, it's MUCH more fun than the 16G it replaced and it's a fantastic street turbo with enough guts to get you down the track.

I see that you're kinda pretty set on either a 50 trim or a 60-1 but have you thought about the in betweens. You could consider a 54 or 57 trim too, both very streetalble from what I understand. I have a big16g right now and if I go up this summer i'll probably go 54 I think.

Yea true that check the in betweens i have a couple of friends running the 57 trims and they love it, i mean you can get alot of power out of a 57 trim if you want more later on

Ok, the pte bb 57 trim(3431) looks pretty sweet. Hows the power and spool up compared to the 50 trim ? Is anyone running that turbo ? How do you like it ?

guy's i've got a quick question for you. if you were choosing, which would you go with:

garrett 57 trim or turbonetics t3/t04e (or t3/t04b)

i'm planning a turbo conversion on my 420a about a year from now. the garrett comes with the turbo kit i want to get most, but i've seen the turbonetics used as well. how do they compare to each other, pro/cons? i'm looking for 400+whp as well, and i'm planning either a complete rebuild or a built crate motor from howell. what are your opinions?

My opinion the turbonetics t3/t04e just ### i have a friend who runs one on his 240 and he has 500 to the rear wheels he made it a pretty tight drift car, and it really pulls on hwy.

750's are the minimum if you want to max the turbo on a 2.0, but 850's are a better bet. My 750's will handle a max of around 57 lbs/min so at 51 lbs/min on the 2.3 (which is the airflow I currently see) I still have some headroom.

Note that DSM Link is not necessary to run a larger injectors as you can run anything you want with a chipped EPROM ECU. But as Lindeberg correcly mentioned you can go big and buy once to avoid additional future upgrades.
