what color is the wire

im prety sure its brown.. but ill check tomorrow.. it doesnt look like its on a clean safc wire it looks like an ecu wire.. what could a knob like that be there for though?

That knob is a "potentiometer", basically a variable resistor to limit voltage to some device. Also known as a rheostat. I couldnt tell you as to what it is hooked up to, but just telling you what it actually is.

WTF thank you Mr. Dictionary but that doesn't help the problem. I'm with 92awddsm. That was what I thought when I saw it. I have seen those installed and wondered how well they work.

LOL yes i bought the car with the 6 bolt installed already.. ill try to chase the wire maybe and get a clear pic:thumb:

Looks like the pot mod to eliminate the random misfire code for the 6 bolt swap. I assume you bought the car with the 6 bolt already installed.

I'm with him. i thought that was the only thing people used those things for in dsm ecu harnesses?? Right?

is there a way i can be sure its for this? if i turn it while the car is running will i notice anything LOL ?

:thumb: orange wire anyone? LOL im thinking its the random misfire fix for that 6 bolt in my 2g with my 2g ecu? just wanna make sure anyone else have the knob? what does it do exactly? i mean as you turn it? should it be set somewhere?

thanks for your help!:thumb:

I'm not exactly sure if that's the potentiometer (can't tell from the picture, but with a 6bolt in a 2G, it eliminates the Check Engine Light from the random misfires. It's a variable resistor, that as you turn it you can increase/decrease the resistance.

For the ECU to look for random misfires it must have a certain set of operating conditions to see if all the parameters are within spec.

One of them is the barometric pressure must be above something like 76 kpa. By adding the potentiometer inline with the baroemetric pressure signal, it acts as a resistor creating a voltage drop, hence the ECU will never read the proper pressure, leading to no CELs.

aha makes sense..

should i have it turned all the way to the left (loose way) or right (tight way) LOL?

thanks for your help !:rocks:

Unless you know where it was set and put it back there, you'll just have to reset it because it will start throwing misfire codes now.
