I bought a used greddy type-s a few months back. I was installing it and realized that the adjust screw for the hard/soft settings was stripped (as in the bolt that you turn with an allen key). Now I have a totally different screw that i "retapped" into the bov, and is secured with a nut. Would this cause any problems? Also, if i set the bov any harder than it is now, the sound of the bov decreases dramatically. You can barely even hear it...but when you turn it back to where it was, its loud. It is recirculated, so Im thinking that may causing the range of sound depending on how hard or soft the bov is set. The BOV seems to hold boost find...10-11 at redline. Is there something wrong? Could I rebuild the bov? I like the type-s and I dont want to change it.

Thanks for the help
Brian

Set it harder and run an all boost/no vac source to the bottom nipple.

Dont they say to leave that nipple open? Or as long as you dont cap it, you can leave it open or run it to a boost source? And where would be a good place to get an all boost/ no vac source?

Its wayyyyy better to run to a all boost source. As for where to get one I like just tapping your intercooler piping. That simple. I tapped my J pipe but thats the same thing.

If he's not having any issues with the valve blowing off properly there is no need to connect the lower nipple to a pressure source (doing so makes the valve act like the stock valve but will reduce the amount of boost it will hold). What you did should be fine, the threads of the adjuster will probably leak so put some pipe dope on them, this is common even with the factory adjuster. As for the sound that is normal that it changes depending on how its adjusted, keep it adjusted at the weekest setting that still hold the boost you want to run. Most of the time even the weekest setting will hold 20 or so psi no problem.

yea another screw will work just make sure that the bottom of the screw is flat... if you take apart the bov you will see what i mean. there is a metal plate underneath it.. i dont wanna find out what would happen because type-s's are discontinued and idk where you can get replacement parts for them.

I can't think of a source that provides only boost and no vac. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the terminology, your intent or even the operation of the turbo system.
Would tapping your j-pipe, compressor housing, and intercooler piping not all yield boost when there was boost and vac when there was no boost?
Maybe installing a check valve in one of these lines could provide this function?

allright, I have a type-rs with the same problem. I never adjusted it and it was working fine. two months later the car starts to run like crap and when I pop my hood the adjustment screw was gone and the threads for it were stripped. is this common problem?
