I just got my eprom ecu and dsmlink and I'm a little confused. It says on the dsmlink box: "DO NOT OPEN EXCEPT AT APPROVED STATIC-FREE WORKSTATION". What does that mean? Should I just take it somewhere and have them put it into the eprom ecu, or should I just do it in like the garage (I was thinking its the most static free place in my house)? Actually this is a two part question. The other part is how do I get the dsmlink into the eprom ecu. I'm so confused. WTF .
Sorry wait one more question. How do I hook the dsmlink up to my laptop.
If this post sounds a little magoo, I apologize. If need some clarity on what I just said, let me know.

I don't know much about dsmlink but all a static free workstation means is that you and the item you are working on are grounded, to prevent a static discharge. It's the same concept as when you build a computer.

Exactly! Just make sure you touch a grounded surface to discharge any static electricity before handling the ECU and or Chip. Just be smart - use common sense...and don’t touch things unnecessarily.

Okay, first off, did you get just an Eprom chip or did you send in an ECU to have them socket the ECU and install the Eprom chip? If you got the Eprom chip and don't know how it installs into the ECU, DO NOT try to do it yourself. Send it to DSMLink and have them do it, or take it to someone who has experience with this sort of work. If you got the whole ECU socketing package, just reinstall the ECU into the car.

Second question is easier: If your laptop doesn't have a serial port--> You'll need a Serial to USB adapter to go from the DSMLink cable (connects to your OBD port) to your laptop. I use the Keyspan adapter, which works flawlessly.
If your laptop does have a serial port --> connect the DSMLink cable to your laptop.

Download the user's manual from the DSMLink website and read their FAQ. It should answer most of your questions.

I bought a brand new ecu from a guy on dsmsource. Its a ecu that already has the eprom on it. I bought the dsmlink from ffwdconnection.com, so should I send both the ecu and the dsmlink to dsmlinl, or what should I do. I am a complete mess when it comes to electronics so I dont want to mess anything up.

so you dont need to even open the ecu right?? if not dont send it in...just put it in and play. I dont see why you would need to if it already has the eprom in it.

de soldering a chip isant bad anyhow all you need 2 do is go 2 ## local radio shack and buy a de soldering gun basically its a soldering gun with a little pump thing on it kinda like what ud use 2 suck a babys ear's clean if any 1 knows what im talikin about but all u do is heat the solder up and suck it off each pin but if u dont feel confident im sure a local computer shop could do it and you would have just a 1 day turn around

Okay, first off, MOST '95 ECU's come with an Eprom chip, so when you say "it already has the eprom on it" do you mean a DSMLink Eprom, or is it just a '95 Eprom ECU. DSMLink replaces the Eprom chip with another chip with the DSMLink code on it. When they do this, they install a socket which makes it easier to get the chip in and out. If you or the person you get to do it for you doesn't know how to do this the right way, you could probably permanently destroy the ECU.

Contact the people at DSMLink, tell them that you have an unsocketed ECU and the DSMLink chip and ask how much, if anything, they'd charge to install it. Then they'll send it back to you and everything will be good.

Okay my mistake. Its just a eprom ecu. See I'm learning :thumb: . I had actually discussed this with the guy I bought it from. I dont know why I forgot it.
Alright I've officially lost my patience cause I've had a rough week; so I'm just going to send it into dsmlink and spare myself another headache.
Thanks for all the help everybody.
