How does this shaft play look? (Vid inside)

Looks decent, so as long as it's not up against the compressor housing your set. It also spins good.

The 14b I put on my car was similar, and it's boosting fine. But that's just my personal experience, which isn't much, so you should probably go get it rebuilt as luvmygst stated. :D

wow that has more play than a 7bolt with crankwalk. J/K. Ok in my limited experience I have felt 2 blown 14bs and one with 150k miles on it, a 16g, a blown t3/t4, and two 60+ kmiles t25s. And wow that may be as bad as the t3/t4 but i think its worse. I would get it rebuilt or buy a new one.

That's a lot of play, turbo is in need of a rebuild, BUT the turbo is still fine to use, just keep checking that it spins freely..

So you guys figure it is not that good. I just came back from a guys house and he has an evo 16g right out of the box, I wiggled the shaft and it seemed very similar to what mine does. I figured it looked pretty good but what do I know.

And no there is no in and out play at all

In the video if you turn up the sound, you can actually hear the compressor wheel blades hitting the housing. I wouldn't run it, personally. Look into a rebuild or sell it.

Acually its not the blades hitting the housing its just the noise it makes shaking it back and forth. The blades dont touch the housing at all.

If you decide to keep running it, keep an eye on the shaft play every week or so to make sure it's not getting any worse. It doesn't take much for the shaft to start wobbling if the wheels aren't balanced, and once the shaft starts playing, it just gets exponentially worse.

Like many of the others in this thread, I think there should be significantly less play on that turbo. My 14b just barely moves at all and still free-wheels.

Add oil through the oil feed inlet while slowly spinning the wheel. I bet it tightens up significantly.

do you mean the shaft play will tighten and it will get better or it wont spin as easily and get worse?

well like i said the one i have in my room, BIG EVO III 16g, is used and has little to no shaft play. but the oil may help. It would be interesting to see if it does.

So if anything adding oil and oil pressure will help it, I think I will just run it then. The blades dont touch the housing and there seems to be a good gap left between the housing and blades when I shake it around.

I think the idea is the oil adds pressure against the seals?
I'm not too sure, I've heard it before. Try it out, let us know if it changes.
