I was driving back from inspection..which i failed, HCs were at like 2100 limit was like 220...but thats besides the point...the car was runnin rough under load-when driving, vibrating, and AF gauge was moving it seemed with the vibrations..very erratic..not the normal sweep, but jerky...and as I got closer to home while under acceleration I heard a loud release of air..similar to the BOV sound, and then 0 boost...car seemed to drive ok minus the sound of the turbo, and HUGE loss of power...had to shift into 1st to climb the hill to my house...Any Ideas where to start looking? or ideas what the hell happend? I checked all my IC pipes and intake tubing...all seemed to still be attatched, have to wait for car too cool so I can take a good look over..but anyone have any ideas what i may be in store for? :(

no Cel.....
the other thing i noticed...before this the turbo sounded like a jet engine when it spooled..and now I dont hear that anymore...
going to boost leak in hour or so...
I got so royally screwed on this car...I havent even put 1k miles on it and ive had to spend like 2k+ on crap already...not what i expected for a 5k used car..

Definitely check the turbo for shaftplay.
Take off the intake tube and grab the compressor wheel and wiggle it.
There should be NO in-and-out play. A little side-to-side play is acceptable.
The compressor wheel should spin freely without contacting the compressor housing.

Report back with your findings.

Welcome to DSM's man! ROFL Anywho, you said the turbo sounded like a jet engine before the no boost occured? I had that same thing on my last talon but it turned out to be that the turbo's fins were so jacked up that it wasn't pressurizing the air. I'd say do the boost leak test first, if that yeilds nothing, take off your intake and take a picture of inside the turbo. They may be broken or bent causing no pressure.

Ok im a retard/....the Lower IC pipe was completly off...hose clamp wasnt even tightened and it popped off...also found a bad leak at the BOV flange...ass who did my clutch and took my BOV off cause he "wanted to see how it was mounted" and he never retightened the bolts...also have another small leak up near the TB well...small but still noticable if you put your hand in front...had to stop there since the rain was startin to pour and my garage is currently inhabited by a sick Audi...
So i assume the turbo jet engine noise will only happen when the turbo can build pressure...
anyway...the shaftplay i checked and there was none...no in out no side to side..and i pushed as hard as i could with the fingers i could fit in there...it also spun freely..

Would this cause it to vibrate as it was? and also cause it to fail emissions? I guess my next course of action is to remove the cat and make sure the previous douchebag didnt gut it...other then that I dont know what to do... EGR wont cause you to fail right? its just to recirculate exhaust gases to scavenge for fuel economy right? if not then i guess thats what i gotta put back in :(

The EGR valve is for emissions purposes.

It is hard to tell with vibrations. You have to pinpoint where they are coming from. It might be your allignment, tire balancing, suspension, etc...

Did they test the car under load?

The EGR is for emissions, yes, but specifically to help reduce NOx emissions (nitrogen oxides). By introducing inert exhaust gas into the combustion chamber, it lowers the temperature and the production of NOx (which is largely a factor of heat). So the EGR wouldn't cause very high HC, but your cat could.

At least you found the leak, haha.
Doesn't blocking the EGR reduce HC? I'm not sure..
Vibrations can be so many different things. First thing I'd check was after you drive it for a few minutes, feel each of your wheels, and see if one of them is abnormaly hotter then the rest..
It could be anything from Calipers to rotors, to bald or bubbling tire, unbalanced tire, alignment, tie rods, cv axle joints, driveshaft carrier bearing, ball joints, wheel bearings, etc etc etc.
If you can be more descriptive, when and where and how exactly this vibration feels, it might help..

Emissions 101

The main purpose of EGR is to reduce NOx, not HC or CO. Thats what the catalytic converter is for.

EDIT sorry, I misread your post. If you remove the EGR, there should be more oxygen in the intake (all fresh air) and the gas should burn more completely, and that would lower HC. But I'm just assuming that, I don't know for sure. Either way, it sounds like you have a dead cat.

the rougness is definatly engine related, I think.. as it goes away when not pressing the throttle...seems to be most pronounced when in a higher gear at lower RPMs Its almost like sputtering like if you have the car in too high of a gear and try to drive like 4th at 10mph...Although just before this happened, I had my TC out to fix the oil retun fitting on my oil pan...I also had to unbolt the support bracket where the axle meets the intermediate shaft thing...I noticed when I had it off that one of the bolts seemed like it needed washers as there was a gap...so I put some in to make it all snug..other then that I didnt touch any drivetrain parts....and it wasnt doing this before...
Oh and i did refill the TC since i lost a lotta fluid when i took it out...

Is the lowering of temperature from the EGR noticable? -
I only saw 2 numbers in my emissions the HC- and another that had a limit of 1.2 and was at like .9...dont remember if it was NOx
