Ok, so I skipped my timing and bent some valves. I've decided it's cheaper and smarter to just buy a rebuilt head off e-bay (with a warranty). The one I found that I like is this here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-0-...8QQihZ015QQcategoryZ33617QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

My question is, how hard is it to transfer over my old cams/lifters (i might even buy 3g lifters while I'm in there) to the new head? Would it be worth it to spend an extra $80~ and buy one with cams/lifters already in it or not? My mechanical skills are reasonable, I mean, I did pull off this head pretty much by myself.

So whatcha think? :thumb:

That looks pretty good, but the price seems a little high. You need to look at shipping cost and factor that in as well. You may find it cheaper to just buy a new set of vavles and take yours to a machine shop and have the head cleaned and the valves installed. My machine shop did a complete disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, with cam installation for $90. Of course, I supplied the cams and gaskets.

But he has new valves that need installed, so that means a valvejob is required. That's going to cost at least $100-$150 at any machine shop.

ya, and if they need to put it in the oven to extract anything thats lodged in there. Mine had to be cleaned and baked. The shop did a great job of assembling it though. its worth the extra time and money. do it right.

Local machine shop wants $200 to clean it, deck it, install valves/guides/seals. Plus i gotta provide parts (another $200). and even then theres the chance my head is warped or something and they will have to do other repairs, etc.

Plus that auction I posted on here is only $330 shipped to my door, they even pay for the shipping of my core back to them. Sounds pretty cheap to me.

I just feel like its smarter to just buy a head thats already rebuilt and ready to go.

How hard is it to put cams/lifters in?

putting in the cams and lifters is easy. I would worrya liitle as they said they take any condition head as a core. I personly wouldn't want a head that has been welded on, from a performance engine stand point so i would ask about that? Also get a copy of the warrany before you buy. Getting warranty taken care of over the net can be very hard and time consuming. spending a few extra $ at a local shop may help in that way. and if your head is bad off they can show that to you. so mark your head so you know its yours and not a core they had on the shelf
