toronto,
i was searching for spark plugs for my 92 tsi awd. the part source guy said that they carry the bpr6egp. i insisted that i'm looking for bpr6es which is the ones they was posted on these forums.

he told me the es is cheap copper ones and the gp is better. what plugs am i supposed to run in my car and why? Some people told me that if i buy anything else i will go through the plugs fast.

You want the bpr6es'. Yes they are copper, but they work the best for us. Don't ask him anything, walk in there and tell him you want the NGK BPR6es', end of story. He is paid to get whay you want, and check you out, thats it, no where in his job discription does it say, to make inaccurate suggestions to people. His definition of better would probably be more expensive=better, and this is most definately notr the case, since the most expensive are idirums, and they work like shit in our cars, but the ngk's are copper, and they work great. Sorry about rambling on, but anywho the NGK BPR6es' are what you want for a stock DSM, the 7s, are what you want for slightly modded, the 8s and 9s are if your running high boost, and pushing lots of power. I'll add another few things to that FAQ soon. i have pictures, I'm just waiting for a few more resources. :)

Are the gp ones platinum? I'll assume so, since he made the distinction that the es's are copper. I'll let you in on a little secret; people who work in parts stores are encouraged (and are rewarded, to push certain items onto people, eg. spark plugs, premium alternators, belts, etc. Here's an example: I work in an auto parts store. I get .25 cents per plug every time someone buys more than 4 Bosch Platinum +4 plugs from me. I'm supposed to say that it's the best plug you can get. I'm supposed to say that it improves power and gas mileage. Do I do any of this? No. That quarter a plug isn't worth it for me to have someone complaining of misfires later on down the road. If someone comes in, walks up to the counter and demands Platinum +4's, I'll gladly sell them. But in most cases where someone doesn't know what kind of plug they want, I'm recommending NGK. :)

If they don't happen to have the BPR6ES, you can go with the BPR6EKN as well. The only difference is the dual electrode.

I just use NGK's
Thats what we're talking about, bub. There are various heat ranges from NGK for our cars, hence the BR6es is hotter than the BR7ES, and also the electrode is made of a different component. Read the posts above, they explain in detail.

i finally was able to get the ES plugs. the old owner had stupid champion plugs and i thought i had a boost leak because the car studders. After i put in the ES the car ran like new.

The guys at the shop always say platinum bla bla bla, but i insisted that is the one i want and finally they gave it to me.

thx guys

I just took EKNs out today and replaced with 8ES. Might want to add in the tech guide about getting those $0.50 packets of plug anti seize for easy removal and protectant for guarding against water/arcing, before install. Seems to help me anyway.

I run bpr7es in my car. had a hard time finding them at work (advance auto parts) since the computer doesent show anything other than the bpr6es. Finnaly found them. Just tell the part stores you want ngk 2023. that is what the computer knows them as. Got them for $1.77 each minus 20%. not too bad considering ive paid 12 bucks for the set before.

You get a discount on plugs? Lucky. I don't get to apply my discount towards spark plugs or oil.

Thank you for reminding me. I'm also supposed to suggest the little anti-seize packets when I sell spark plugs also, but sometimes I forget to. Although, I don't see why someone wouldn't just buy the giant bottle of it, seeing as it's good for a lot more than spark plugs. Except for the fact that I can't find the giant bottle of it in this godforsaken state. :toobad: Next time I go to Michigan, I'll have to remember to buy one.
