ok i am sick and tired of this same crap.

have to deal with low compression, now alternator goes ...again....

the previous owner put new alternator in 6 months ago(he replaces battery as well),
1 month later i buy car, alternator goes so i replace both the battery and alternator, now today, guess what...battery doesnt hold charge, so it hit the dirt and now alternator is also screwed.

NEED A FIX FOR THIS please HELP

last time when i got the alternator fixed, i paid $400+. they were trying to find a possible short and didnt find anything.

yeah i know i have lifetime warranty on alternator but this is just a huge annoyance. if i dont find this problem i believe i'll just sell car altogether, eventhough interior and exterior is in mint condition. i dont want to come to this but its just too much

need help

$400.00 to fix an alternator!

Wowsers. That's way to much, and they didn't fix anything.

Your powersteering pump is probably leaking fluid on your alternator. This will quickly kill any alternator.

Also, do you still have your heatsheilds on? The other possibility of alternator failure is too much heat.

Do yourself favor and fix the powersteering leak, heatsheilds, and get your charging system tested out.

yeah they were trying to find a short for hours and nothing.

no i dont have any heatshields.

how do i know if the powersteering pump is leaking?

WTF

Look ontop of the alternator, and see if there is any oil type film ontop.
Is it just as clean and new and dry as the day you put it on?

The cam seals on the valve cover can also leak over time, causing oil to run down the side of your motor and get inside the ALT.

If there is oil of anykind on the alternator, thats the issue. If its fine, I would go with the above suggestion of it may be over heating.

no i bought the alternator from a car shop.

well the headgasket is screwed for sure... i couldnt see any oil on the alternator but a wiped a cottong swab in the copper-colored wires and some dark dust came off, may be normal though.

anyone have a picture of what an o2 hounsing heatshield looks like?
