Ok i just got this used turbo I bought, i looks to have cracks on the waste gate actuator, the in and out and side to side play on it seems to be loose feeling, not to the point where it touches the walls or anything but why is it that loose? The crack on the actuator is where the fat part and skinney part are attatched. By the way its a evo316g

If there is any in and out play with the shaft then a rebuild will be needed. Also like Martin said a pic would helps us much better to give accurate advice.

Im sorry, no camera. But yeah there is 2 cracks on the actuator. There is defianately in and out play, it doesnt take alot of force to move it side to side or in and out. But it doesnt hit any wall.

that sucks, the guy told me there was no in and out play just a little side to side, and he didnt menttion the cracks.

Sounds like you just got hustled for some cash, or he has no clue what he was talking about. With all these problems that you know of, Im willing to bet there are some others. I just don't see how the actuator got cracked...what happened? did it freeze up, and he started hitting it with a hammer?:) Also on a side note, a little side to side play (1mm or so) is normal...even some brand new turbo's have atiny bit of side to side play, but the in and out is no good...not in the least, my turbo needs a rebuild (190K) on her, but there is 100% no in and out play, and only 1-2mm of side play (not touching).
