I was wondering the best place to purchase a MHI E316g. I am talking in regards to best PRICE rather than best company. I am done with buying used turbos as I think I may have just been screwed. I know there are plenty of places/shops to buy MHI E316g's, as I will ONLY buy an MHI unit. I can port the turbine housing myself, so I don't think I would need to purchase that option. But I am still deciding if I should go with the 34mm flapper mod or not.

Right now on my car I have A MBC set at 15psi, an E316g that now went tits up, Of course an aftermarket boost gauge, as well as an EGT gauge, free mods, K&N filter, and thats it for now.

I am planning on a IX fuel pump, Evo 560s, E316g, E3 o2 housing and manifold, 3" o2 back. Yada yada, everything said to run 22psi on pump. SO would it be a better idea for a 34mm flapper? Although at 15psi on the turbo that is now bad, boosted 15psi, maybe spiked to 16 at most and settled back to 15psi, never had a REAL problem of spiking/creeping. Is it neccesary and should I just go forward with the mod, or should I just pocket the extra $$.

I bought this MHI E316g from this guy local, and ran it for 2k miles, it was previously rebuilt 10k ago, had minimal play when I bought it, and had a polished compressor cover stamped by TRE. I ran it for 2k miles, and one day cleaned my intake system, and checked the play for shits and grins. There was a TON of play, none in and out, but enough now that the turbo wont spool over 11psi with the MBC wide open. Blue smoke yada yada, turbo is done for. I ran the turbo no more than 17psi, when I was trying to set my boost to 15, so I NEVER overboosted it. But on the other hand maybe the guy did NOT screw me over. the two carrier bearings on my driveline are done for, and I can literally grab the driveline and move it up down left and right all over the place, lots of movement, and when resting in place you can see its not centered in the carrier bearing. So I've decided to go ahead and try the carrier bearing fix with silicone, to see how it turns out, before spending 200 for new ones. Well since the carrier bearings are done, there is an INSANE vibration mainly in 3rd and 4th gears, so much that it feels like you are getting a back massage, knocks the rear view mirrior off the windshield, and vibrated the screw out of my center piece int he steering wheel to cause it to fall off LOL. I am almost wondering from the turbo spooling, and the vibration being so bad, that it ruined the turbo? Well I now have down time with my car and can fix a few little issues and get her back and running strong. Ever since I bought this car before the 16g install, the car ran beautifully. No problems other than a vibration and small squeaking noise that I can't pinpoint yet. This is my 3rd DSM, and I have goals of just a minimal 300-350hp on an Evo turbo and fuel system.

OK a little off track here.
The best price for an MHI E316g unit? Anyone have experiences with some of the vendors/shops that have a decent price, or get good deals on these turbos that they can swing my way?

34mm flapper mod neccessary? (sp?)

Turbochargers.com has one for about $530 shipped with nothing done to the turbo.
Extreme PSI has one for $539 with nothing done but give you the option of the 34mm flapper.
Cheapest places that I can find for an MHI unit, maybe someone knows a better place to get an MHI unit than I do?

Thanks in advanced for the help/opinions.

Just a quick note: the link that FourreGsixty3 posted points to the MHI Big 16G, which is slightly different than the Evo 3 16G. The link for the E3 is here:http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=52& Their price is about $570, and another $60 for the 34 mm flapper.

And another thing, you mentioned turbochargers.com on your list and they sell the Evo GT, which isn't made by MHI. Just make sure you are getting the actual MHI Evo 3 16G when you order.

You care to give us a link? Im looking at the 16G on turbochargers.com, and it says $499.

Yeah turbochargers.com has the best deal, however I found out today when I took the turbine housing off, it was professionally ported, and has a 34mm flapper already. Only downfall is a crack where the flapper closes to. So I think I'm just going to buy the MHI 16g unit from turbochargers.com and swap the turbine housings, as I already sandblasted and cleaned it.

No wonder I had no creeping problems:)

I'll take a pic of that crack I was talking about, it worries me, it goes all the way through where the flapper shuts, and then you can see it creep up the inlet side of the turbine housing, right on the curve where the inlet curves into the WG hole. But all in all the port job was done very well and the flapper works awsome. Now to order my turbo:)

Don't do the flapper mod. You said you were gonna run 22psi don't do the flapper mod. Turbochargers.com is a good deal if you want the kit too. Forced Performance is the cheapest ive seen recently.

Update,

Bought a 16g from a buddy, realized the compressor blades had rubbed before, so Now I found a Brand new CHRA for 250, now I NEED a compressor cover. Anyone got one?:)

250 bucks for, a new CHRA, fully ported with 34mm flapper.
