How come the 18G is not a popular turbo?

just reading on here everyone talks about the 16G EVIII, 50 trim, 20G etc. The 18G hardly comes up in any recommendations etc. Why is that it must be better than the 16G and a bit worst than 20G. Tell me more about this turbo a search did not bring up much.

Probably because you can get a 20G for the same price, or get a 50Trim varient for less.

The 18g's lack or popularity in our community has to do with a few things.

1. They are quite uncommon compared to the extremely abundant 16G. Also, not from statistical data, but from being around the community for a while, the 20g seems to be much more prevalent than the 18g. You just dont see them for sale or being ran on cars all that much.

2. The step up from the 16g to the 20g (depending on specifications) is usually a good bump in horsepower. However, going from a 16g to an 18g was never a financially sound decision seeing as there was minimal performance gains for the dollar. This is reinforced even further with the rise of the ever popular E16g which makes very comparable power usually at a fraction of the price.

Its not a bad turbo by any means, it just never fit that many peoples wants/needs in the bang for the buck scenario.

Plus you can get a 20g for nearly the same price now and like he said the evo16g is very comparable to the 18g.

I'm running an 18g, it came with the car along with an CARB exempt number for my GReddy 3" Intake, and the 18g.
I will have it tuned hopefully to 20psi by the end of the month.
I'm doing a ton of maintance right now.
I will let you know how it goes, but for the most part, I'm confident that the Evo III 16g can hang with an 18g.
But with a killer tune and some cams, the 18g will flow more air.

I can't wait to get the PTE SCM5031RE though, it should be a real ass kicker.
