would just like to know the opinion on what you think is the best intercooler to get for the best spool up of your turbo? I have the stock turbo and possibly switching to the s16g. im not tryin to be a major dragster i just want to safely boost enough to beat some of these freaking subaru's around here. theres alot and i want to smoke some. i just want to get in the range of 350 horses and ill be happy. just wonderin what would be the best intercooler for this setup.

please give details..(me>newbie)

check ebay, or dejon they have nice intercoolers at a nice price that will hold that horse power range

Extremeturbosystems make great FMIC's. The xs power kit on ebay is cheap, but its long route(not a big deal to some like me) and I own this one. Im very pleased with it so far but its not installed yet. I would go for a b16g or 50trim to hit 350whp.

Hmmm, well if you are only going with a s16g a FMIC is not actually needed... You need to remember, if you get to big of an intercooler, you will get turbolag and that won't be good for drag... If anything I would say do the supra sidemount conversion... Just my thoughts...

I have a s16g and not much lag, full spool around 2200. wish I had some lag with fwd:notgood:

This is partial misinfo. You could survive on a SMIC, but a FMIC would help quite a bit, especially if you run >=20 psi. A couple hard pushes and my SMIC is heat soaked.

Additionally, the lag is not an issue. Find something with short route piping and you will have LESS piping than you did before. The core size will not effect things noticeably. If you get something that will allow you to keep your bumper it's not too big. Also, this will give you room to upgrade your turbo in the future, if it happens to die on you or you get "the itch."

FMIC are getting cheap enough nowadays it's not worthwhile to fab up some SMIC creation or wrestle a supra SM in there. Just get a nice big shiny FM and be done with it!

If you are a DIYer, there are a lot of people having success with some inexpensive Ebay cores. The jury is still out on their performance and durability as they are relatively new. For a few hundred more bucks you can get a Dejon, Extreme, or SBR kit that will be reliable and fit well. Your choice!

Good luck! :thumb:

Well, he said he didn't want a major dragster... SO I was assuming 14-15psi would be the max he would run... In which case a SMIC would be efficient. I didn't mean for it to be "misinfo".

Hehe. "major dragster" isn't very technical, but 350hp (wheel or crank) is purty tough on a SMIC...

Any turbo needs a larger intercooler. Like he said he wanted around 350whp, damn near impossible on a SMIC with no help(injection). I would say go with an ebay core, and custom fab some pipes or XS FMIC for $200 shipped to your door with all the pipes, core, couplers and clamps.

+1 The ebay intercoolers are great, just the rest of the stuff on there sucks.

thanx for the help.

one more question..would it be safer to hit 350 (at the wheels) with the S16g or the B16g? i want to be at 19psi by 3000 if not sooner. i got a GSX so im not really worried about breaking traction.

Well I only have experience with the b16g and it hits full boost around 3500rpm. So does my brothers car, but ive heard someone say they hit full boost by 3000rpm but dont believe it. I also think it would be easier to hit your hp mark with the evo 16g.
