i was just wondering if anyone knows a few things i can check for when i smell gas when driving my car hard. I was driving on the highway and i smelled it really strong? anyone know what this might mean?

i would definitely check the rubber gasket that seals the area around the fuel pressure sending unit....mine went bad, the whole car always smelled like gas, and i was losing fuel...changed it, and no more smell....if your smelling it, its obviously going to be a fair sized leak

Its a good idea to fill out your profile so we know what you have done to your car, this will make answering your questions alot easier. As for the gas smell do you have an aftermarket FPR setup such as the Aeromotive & use SS braided AN line? If so, there are many types of this line out there that people are using that wasn't designed for everyday street fuel. The fuel vapours will actually permeate through the hose as the hose is being eaton away. To prevent this you need to run a hose that is teflon lined. If your not running a setup such as this, the above posts are good places to start.

nah i dont have any fuel line ups or anything like that. What is the easiest way to check for the leak? Just start the engine and rev it up and look for a leak? Thanks alot guys

My car does the same thing, if anyone finds out please let me know I'm scared to light a cigarette half the time.

Reading these posts scared me. If you are smelling gas in your car you need to fix it or dont drive it. You could die! If you think you have a fuel leak you dont need to start the car to find it usually. Have a friend turn the key on while you check around your fuel rail and the fuel lines under the hood. If you dont see anything there pull your back seat and the inspection cover and check your sending unit( unless you have a fwd then just look under the car). Be very carefull because depending on the temp outside even a slight spark could cause you and your car to go BOOM. Now if you still dont see anything then start the car and inspect all these areas again and check the fuel lines that run under the car back to the tank. Keep us posted and if you need one on one talking pm me and I'll give you my phone number. Travis

i always have a fuel smell in my car but i cant find what it is?? i checked everything and it looks right so help me.

There's a pretty good thread developing over in the problem diagnosis forum on this subject. ( http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151328 )

Please, read the other thread. (I'm old and I type slow, :tease: and I think even slower :p, so I'd rather not type it all out again.)

A quick and casual glance will not find these kinds of problems, as the system is only leaking under certain circumstances.

You are looking for a stain/discLOLoration.

Usually, leaks under g-forces are about the tank area. Check around the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit, the filler tube, and the return line fittings at the top of the tank . Anywhere that the fuel would slosh under acceleration/cornering forces. Hopefully someone more familiar with the 2g's, (and fwd 2g's in particular) will chime in with more applicable advice.

Please, let us know what you find!!!

Many of these threads are dead ending, and nobody learns anything from that. I can usually find the answer to a problem by searching, but so many problems are solved, ...and the threads are never updated :notgood:, and that makes searching an exercise in frustration.

Could be the filler neck on the gas tank, its a rubber hose and if its original then it might be leaking, mine does this.
