You guys probably get this alot but here goes.. I just bought a talon with the 4G63 n/t motor, I wanna know where to start with modifying the engine. I wanna make around 30-40 more horses and i have 500 dollars to do so. So any suggestion would be a big help.:talon:

Well one thing is, for $500 your not going to get 30-50 more hp. Sorry to ruin your day. I would start with a Cat-Back Exhaust system and Intake. See how much you have left and finish the Exhaust system up.

There's no easy way to say it, but a n/a 4g63 is a slow car. I had one myself and even after I put a couple grand into it I could still get spanked by 80% of the cars out there.
The only thing to do to a non-turbo without getting crazy and spending lots of money is an intake, header, and exhaust. It's not really worth it to pour hard earned money into that platform.
but do whatever floats your boat

well theres a shop that would do a custom cat-back for me for 220.. im kinda a fan of ebay intakes too.. but besides that i was thinking maybe some ignition upgrades? ..also if i were to boost this motor (which is healthy at 95k miles and i plan to check compression) how much boost should I run on the stock internals?

i'm only looking for a mild increase in performance for right now so please dont suggest anything crazy like "sell it get turbo!! or just build it up and go boost!!"

*obviously if I boost I'd have a spend a little more which i dont feel as if im ready to tackle that right now*

About turbo-ing my motor.. I did alot of reading and idk if I'm mistaken or not but it seem a if people only upgrade the pistons and rings when turbo-ing the n/t.. is the rest of the bottom end fine for boost? or should I look into upgrading the rods etc. also???

The only difference between the turbo motor and n/t motor is cams, block(oil squirters in turbo, none in n/t), pistons, and rings. Both engines use the same crank and rods.

ok so i can just mate a turbo head to my block along with stock turbo pistons and rings? if so if anybody has these parts for sale im interested.

I sadly wrecked my car this morning, I am completely parting out everything, this is the car in my thread that I wound up replacing with the turbo engine/tranny/ecu. the turbo is bad but everything else works, starts up fine and actually drives good for a massive boost leak. I personally will install everything for 2500 to get it running right, that's including me buying any parts needed to get it running and most of my parts are new. I'm just trying to break even, also I will help you sell your current engine/tranny/ecu etc. and you can make about 1k back like I did.

another thing I can do is rebuild your current engine with turbo internals, this would obviously be the cheaper route just let me know.

just an idea PM me if your interested.

My cousin boosted the crap out of a 200,000 mile N/T motor. 18 psi on a 14b for almost a year, it never had an issue. As long as there is no detonation it should last a long time.

if I know any thing about dsm's i know that you cousin was a lucky individual- not to knock what he did but I want to build a reliable turbo set-up and not something that's a ticking time bomb

So I'm thinking of buying another motor to ticker around with...

this is what i think will be most cost effective-

~n/t motor with stock turbo head and stock turbo pistons and rings, (would this be a turbo ~4G63 without the oil squirters??)
~metal head gasket
~walboro 190 fuel pump
~stock n/t fpr
~upgraded clutch
~bigger injectors
~then boost... (10-12 psi?)

I think this would be a good beginner's endevour- my first boosted car

..sounds like a winter project to me :sneaky: :talon:
