Ok so I have a quick question i have a 92 plymouth laser turbo 5spd and my ecu caps have been leaking bad and screwed it up so i found a great deal on a rebuilt ECU thats my buddy had laying around i ck the serial number on the ecu and it is a turbo ecu which is great.

But sadly i bought the ecu from him and totally forgot to ck if it's a ecu from a auto or manual turbo car. and since he had the ecu laying around he had no idea which car of his it was for.

So my question is how can i tell if the ecu i just got is for a auto or manual car i was told that the auto ecu is programed for the smaller 380cc injectors which i'm assuming would be bad if it was in mine.

So guys if you have any clue please i need help.

What is the part# on the ecu? http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ECUs.html

Bad news it says that i have a Automatic ecu so is that a bad thing or can i still run it if not is there a way to reprogram for a manual trans

You have a couple of choices. Either get yourself a set of 390 injectors and keep the stock boost setting or you can get an afc, dsmlink, etc to tune for the calibration difference. If it is e-prom, you can have a chip burned to compensate for the 450cc injectors.

This sucks i was hoping i could swap out a some stuff from the old ecu to allow it to work in the new ecu making it avaliable for manual trans

And does anybody know if there is any way that i can config the other ecu to make it work with out have a piggy back fuel controller

good news if i can't configure the automatic ecu then i was able to find another ecu from a 93 eagle tsi 5 speed for a good price but now i have another question will a 93 ecu work in a 92 car

cool well at least i have a ecu i can get the ecu i have to work.

Does anybody have a idea of how to convert a auto ecu to a manual ecu i think i just have swap out the microcontroller but i'm not sure i hope i can because i don't feel like shelling out another 80 for a ecu

Sure if you can desolder two 68 pin PLCC parts and swap them it would work.

You could drop the fuel pressure and make the manual injectors act like they were 390cc. Right now at stock 1G MT fuel pressure they act like they are 411cc.

cool i suck and desoldering and soldering so i might be stuck with that option.

Ok so you guys probally will think this is stupid but i thought that since i have a no start condition that my ecu was to blame and when i opened it up i could see some burn marks so i thought that the ecu was junk and that the caps were leaking.

To my suprise after looking at the board for awhile i noticed that all the caps were already replaced with 105 degree capacitors and that maybe the burn were just from the old caps.

I'm not sure when they were replaced but since there 105 degree caps then i'm assuming that there not factory and that they can't be bad again.

Which leads to a problem maybe my ecu is fine after all and is not the reason for the no start after all.

Is there a way to check the ecu to make sure that the burn marks that i see don't actually effect the ecu after all and that i should just reinstall it and continue and my search for the problem.

Put in in another car and see if it has the same problems. I wouldn't spend too much time until your 100% sure it isn't the ECU consider how often it is.
