i thought this wasnt going to be too hard so i gave myself 3-4 hours till night to change my alternator. sure enuf its taking much longer. seems like every bolt needs a different size tool and ive broken couple rusted bolts.THEN 2-3 hours into the job i figure out that my ass cant get the the back bolt for the alternator brace. wtf? the last freakin bolt! please tell me i can get to that bolt without taking off all the belts and other shit.

i didnt take a pic but i did take the alt belt off and also removed the pivot bolt. the only thing holding the alternator in place is brace. i took the front bolt off the brace but cant get to the back one. the other belt/pully thing is in the way.

The alt brace does not need to come off (top alt bolt goes into it and slides front/rear for belt adjustment). Just remove that top bolt and the long one on the alt bottom (that it pivots on) and it will come out. You will have to pull hard while swinging the alt front/rear (and a little side to side rocking) to break it loose from the bottom mount. If you really want to remove the alt bracket for some reason, you must remove the water pump pulley to get that rear brace bolt.

are you talking about REALLY thrashing it around? i already slammed the alternator back and forth but the top of the alternator has a piece that gets fatter so it locks it into the brace holding part. i was thinking that if i can get the bottom part off (like you said)i can turn the alternator and pull the bottom first but after i was smashing the hell out of it i figured that it was supposed to be there and i needed to take the brace off first. the hynes manual said to take the brace off. i didnt do any side to side movments so i guess ill try that tomorroow. thanks

yup i had already taken off the wheel & the fan. but i finally got it off! hahaha i took a hammer and beat it into submission :D thanks for the help guys! but now i have a problem w/the new alternator http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240993 (w/pic)

edit:Took me almost a freakin hour just to figure out how to pound the new alternator into the pivot part. Hammer & wood :thumb: If I had some type of grinder I would have taken some metal off the inside of the bottom mount part so it could slide in easier. now i gotta get the battery recharged. thanks again guys
