is it bad when you can smell your speakers? what is the smell?

ROFL

If you can smell your speakers that's called electrical burn. (on a small scale but still)

The coil is fried.

Change the speaker but check the wiring when you do to prevent the same fate to the new speaker.

Either you had the wrong impedance going to the speaker or a wire shorted out.

First off, what was the ohm resistance of the speaker, and what was the ohm of the radio???

Just because you smell the speaker it doesn't nessesary mean it's bad

If it was a radio speaker, you probaly over powered it and not the ohm, that's what commonly happens
