Ok, I will be getting a VRS 3" turbo-back, but with the o2 housing, and a test-pipe. I will want to keep the whole system for DD, but I want those exhaust gases to get away from the GT35R quicker for track days. So what I was thinking is when i want to go to the track I can take the piping that bolts to the test-pipe/back off, and have the guys at my family's shop weld up a 3" piece of same metal type with a flange to fit the test pipe, I willo have the custom welded pipe go back 10" more, then have a mandrel bent short 90* pice added on on the end to point the exhaust towards the ground. Here is a link to streetfire with a vid of a DSM with what I am thinking of>>>http://videos.streetfire.net/search/dsm/1/eb6f535e-79e4-4b4c-83b1-6918b2ff14cf.htm, but I would have it go a bit futher back...or just remove the test pipe and bolt that piece up to the DP. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Pros? Cons? Anything anyone has to say will be taken into consideration, also this will only be done for at the track, and for on the street I will have the entire VRS system hooked up, taking it on and off will be no problem, as for the fact that I have 4 4-point lifts. Also emissions, is not a problem, because we give so much buisness to the local emissions testing company(firestone), that we just say it will pass, and it does pass, without ever being tested.

Before you do that, check the regulations at the track. Most tracks have noise limits that any vehicle can operate, and they have audio decibel meters placed at points along the track to make sure each vehicle is in compliance with noise limitations.

why dont you just run open downpipe at the track
Because I want the exhaust gasses traveling further away then where the DP stops. Plus I want to angle the exhaust down a little like in that vid.

Its only going to cost like 40$...not including the 3" VRS turbo back exhaust.

hey dustin how bout taking that test pipe you'll have an weld on a manual cutout onto it?

just weld a 45 degree or 90 degree elbow on the under side of the test pipe and fabricate a removable gate that you can take off at the track and bolt back on for the street?

don't have to pay for the electric cutout, only have two or three bolts to remove to open up your exhaust flow rather than your entire catback... just an idea.

i guess combine the short section of track-pipe and your existing test pipe both into one system.

Thats an idea Chris, I like both yours and Dereks idea's, but I want to get that little extra bit of piping inthere so it will be dumping past the front seats.
Keep the thoughts comming guys. I like what Mondo said about Db levels at the track, anyone know of any rules at their local track that wouldn't allow this mod?
Also Chris it would probably be the same amount of cash to do what I am talking about, and what you are talking about.

Ya, you could just get a cutout. I would stay away from the electric one because they always break. Just get the manual one.

I just made a cutout system for my 90 awd. I am going to hook it up with the QTP electric cutout but it can also work manually by removing 3 winged nuts with a gloved hand. I will take a picture of my system and post it up today if you want.

Here are pics of my cutout exh system...I went with a 2.5" DP and welded it to a custom made 3" cutout with a block off plate which I can take off with my hand, however I have the QTP electric cutout just have not installed it. and with strict california laws, I went with a 2.25" catback and stock muffler so the cops wont pull me over for loud exhaust.

Hmmmm, thanks for the pic's. I also was thinking that if I could take off from the test-pipe back it would free up a few pounds, I doubt that would be noticable, but Ill be pushing my FWD, and any weight off will be good for me.

Ya, this will be my DD, and I have the read gutted from the front seats back, and soon to take out the ac crap in the dash, and I will be replacing the seats with 15lbs ones.
