My car has been blowing out blueish smoke here and there at idle for the past couple of weeks. The smoke would blow out from the exhaust pipe and also from the bottom of the engine. Yesterday, my brother drove the car out on the highway and the car just would not stop smoking and suddenly the motor started making raddling noise. He then pull the car to the side and notice that oil burst out all over the engine bay and left a puddle of oil under the car. He also checked to see if there was any signs of oil in the coolant but pop open the radiator cap, there was no coolant left. There was no signs of the coolant leaking from the radiator, I just replaced the radiator not to long ago. The puddle of oil looked like coolant and oil mixed together tho.

With this, does this mean that my HG is gone or is it more then the HG. The turbo is still kinda new and there is no plays. The car was boosting at 18 PSI on a TO4b turbo. The only thing I notice on the car is when the car is at full boost, the car would run so rich that at 5k RPM it would hesitate and blow out a big buff of blackish smoke, kinda like mini fuel cut. I do have the EPROM ECU with dsmchip with no fuel cut too. All boost leaks and exhaust leaks had been fixed two days ago before I turn the boost back up to 18 psi.

Thanks

If oil and coolant are mixing, most likely it is a blown HG. Though running the car dry on coolant could also very well of caused overheating/warping of the head.

Oil buring can very easily foul plugs causing misses at higher load/RPMs.

I would definitely have someone look over the condition of the engine's bottom end as extended bearing exposure to thin coolant-contaminated oil is not a good thing.

ok, here is what Mits dealer said. Engine is done and needs new motor. The transmission mount had cracked to the housing and caused the motor to have a lost alot of power. The motor have excesive blow by, no comp. its just a mess. They said that it will cause more then 4k to rebuilt the motor so this is what they have in mind, 2500 for a use LB motor and 1200 for a use transmission and 200 for timing belt and tensioner while the motor is not install, then 1200 for labor.

Is this a resonable deal or if anyone know of another alternative route. I was thinking of a SB motor for $3k but that does not include a tranny.

thanks.

May want to check the Tuners Classifides as I see engines/trannies for sale all the time. Ooo.. here's one.

I'd also like to see what the dealor was talking about w.r.t. the tranny mount. If it's just the case (e.g not the internals), it could likely be repaired (welded) or replaced.

Performance rebuilt shortblocks can be had for under $2K (Buschur Racing, SBR) so if not in a hurry, may be another option :dsm:

Thanks for the inputs, I think I am just going to have them install me a brand new motor. That way it will still last me another 100k miles. The dealer said that it will be too difficult to deal with these venders and that it will cost me too much money to ship the motor and also will cost to do paper works on it.

But I would love to have one of SBR LB race motors tho, it cost just as much as a new one. I am still doing I little thinking and will make my final dicision today before the dealership closes.

Honestly, the dealership is prol the last place I'd ever go to have this type of work done (never had a good experience with any Mitsu/ChryCo dealer).

Re/Re a complete long block can be done by any number of garages (even your own ;).

Do you have any import shops nearby? I'd at least call around to see what other options you have locally :dsm:

There are a couple of import shops here, but I been having bad experience with them. Don't mean to diss them here in Oregon but yeah, if your not a part of there race crew, they will put your car to the least priority as one really well known shop here in Portland that screw up my brother's rebuilt motor for $6k and the dealership had to redue some of the process.
Anyhow, I am having the dealership look into Karking.com , he said that the motor might be 1750 but the parts person that does the paper work might add another 500 to do all paper work and shipping.

I know its stealership but one reason why I am having the them do it, its because school is starting soon and he said he will get the car done for me by monday. I would love to have someone that I know that I can trust to do the job but the only friends I have owns honda's and don't know much about the DSM's.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Updates:

Ok, the dealer just order brand new head and short block and new tranny. Everything plus labor ($1400) equal $7500. I would ask them to put in a performance clutch but I decided not to. I'm giving the motor a couple of thousand miles to brake in before I do any major tuning, boost will be turn back down on the T04 to 11psi. So they are throwing in a new stock clutch for free. Any tips on motor brake ins.

Man I wish I lived closer to a DSM race shop. This could of been a new race motor instead of stock, but anyways, the good thing is, the new motor will last me another 100k miles.

Is it too late to stop? You could buy another car in great shape for that price! This really seems like a bad deal to me, you could buy a $500 beater and drive it untill you can get your dsm done right.

I thought of that too, but I just can't get things done right doing it my self tho. Me and my bro did his HG and 2 weeks down the road, bad timing and bad installation blew his motor. I do have another car that I can drive around, I just bought a new 350Z 2 mounths ago. Its sitting in the garage just for looks, it just don't drive like the DSM AWD turbo. I don't know about other guys out there but, I just love DSM's and once I go DSM AWD, I can't go 2WD.

Beleive me, I understand the love of a dsm, when my engine finally gives up I will be getting it rebuilt too. But for the money you are spending, you should be able to get a built performance motor put in, not just the stock engine. I just feel that you're going to be throwing alot of money away. If money means anything to you (it may not), i would call just about every other auto repair places in your area to see how much you can get a new engine put in for. From slowboyracing, you can get a Stage 1 long block for $4k, which would leave you with $2500 for install, and you would have a better motor.

Round trip shipping in the continental US is only 225 and there is no paperwork charge, you could have easily found this out by giving us a call.

Yeah, 7500, you could buy a whole car for that price. If you have another car why not drive that for a while.
