all you really need to swap a 14b into a 2g is the turbo outlet pipe.

Pick up the following:

- 1G j-pipe
- 1G oil feed line
- 1G oil return line

You can modify your 2G return line, if you want. But for the price of a used 1G return, you might as well buy one.

And you'll have to do a little work to get a complete lower IC pipe. But, this is the cheapest way possible. Those overpriced "2G install kits" are way overrated IMO. This shouldn't cost you more than $200, including the turbo itself.

Good Luck.

ok... should this be able to straight bolt-on? (no/little tuning)

and what is a j pipe? (sorry newb here)

a j pipe runs from the turbo to the side mount (need to fab a pipe if you have a FMIC). also, if you are looking for 350 whp later on down the road I would look into a used 16g (evo III or Big) because this would be easier to squeeze 350 whp out of.

The turbo you have has a compressor outlet that is facing down. The 14b's faces up. The j-pipe just takes the upward facing outlet and runs it down to the stock sidemount intercooler piping location.

Go to tech tips and follow stage one. If your plans are for 350hp you will have to do all these mods anyway, might as well do them first and see how much you can squeeze out before changing the turbo. Its kinda fun changing one thing at a time and seeing the difference it makes. my recomendation is always:
1. Boost gauge
2. Free Mod the intake pipe - cut out BOV dump pipe
3. hack intake box or add 4 inch K&N
4. Replace upper intercooler pipe and use 1 g BOV.

From my experience this will add more HP than a 14b, of course I still have a few things to do before I can squeeze my 14b more more boost:thumb:

When i went to the 14b i too was trying to do it the cheap way. But in the end i ended up spending more than i wanted to to make things right. With the 14b and 1g j pipe you have very little room between the pipe and fan. there is room to work but not much. I ended up buying a 75 dollar pipe from dejon for my short route fmic pipeing. The 14b is a great upgrade but im sure im not near 350 hp even with my supporting mods. To make 350hp i would think a eIII 16g would better suite. Correct me if i am wrong please anyone.

I would just buy a 2g install kit and be done with it...then later down the road when your ready to buy a 16g all you have to do is swap the turbo.

I was going to say, don't do it the cheap way, do it the right way. Make sure that you have pieces that are going to work well to begin with and you'll be a lot happier because you'll probly end up replacing them later.

I agree, do all the supporting mods first. I went to a 14b trying to save $$$ Now I wish I would have just done all of the supporting mods first and then went with a E3 16g or t28. But all I am looking for somewhere around 300 hp and would settle for about 270..

If you have the money buy the EVO 3 16G with 550's and a SAFC, also make sure you have a logger. Fine tune and you should be well on your way to 350hp. Remember most power comes out of the tune. Most people try to upgrade way before they reach the max on their current turbo.

I was under the impression that the stock T25 turbo is maxed out anyways..

I've already decided I'm gunna wait... and go 50 trim..

and now just get enough supporting mods..

can anybody add to this list...

for 350-375whp:

I want a QUICK spooling turbo... I'm thinking 50 trim... but some say evo3 16g.. I'll need to change the manifold if I go 50 trim tho... ??? correct???

HKS 264 cams
FMIC
660cc injectors
DSM Link
downpipe
should I go 2.5 or 3 inch on the exhaust (I want some bottom end)
manual boost controller
sheet metal intake
1g TB
fuel pump
what MAF/intake setup should I go with?

and i'd guess I'll need a wideband in there somewhere..

If you only want 350whp the 16G should be enough. If you do however want a 50 trim instead, your own 2g manifold works great when ported. If you get the 50 trim your gonna want at least HKS 272's but I'd look into other cams like DKS 2's from FFWD or FP2's from Forced performance. Go 3in exhaust most dp's start at 2.5 to meet the 02 and flange out to a 3in. You probably wont need a SMIM. Your maf should do just fine. And your gonna need a bigger pump I'd say a 255, and with that you need a AFPR wich you can get a nice little kit from Import Evolution. I believe its 195$ without the gauge.

* And before Defiant gets in here, whats wrong with your period key.... LOL

definately go with 3' exhaust. i would buy bigger injectors than the 660's. an evo III 16g will be able to max them out, so you would need more to max out the 50 trim. You don't have to worry about going too big with injectors since you're going to tune with DSMLink. If you have the money, a ball bearing 50 trim will spool close as fast to a 16g. but an evo won't have too much trouble putting down 350hp to the wheels. As for an intake setup, i would just get a K&N filter and possibly a hard pipe. All blowthrough does is slightly helps with spool time, which wont be an issue for you, and allows you to vent, which does nothing except for the cool noise.

the problem is. I need all the quick spool time POSSIBLE. I'm sporting a auto.

Will the SMIM give me any power tho? I've seen where it gives a stock car like 20whp

Yes a SMIM will help, but its one of those mods that the more you have done the more gains you'll see. It would be a great combo with some nice cams.

sheesh - we started out at a 14b, and now were at a 50trim ?

No you do not need a new manifold -
"sporting a auto" allready puts you ahead of the m/t guys. You can build up spool from the line.

My car is a auto and i have ran both the evo3 16g and the small 16g . Im telling you right now the small 16g will out do the evo 3 for sure in power deleivery and spool time . However in the 1/4 it maybe different . My car ran a 8.28 in the eighth on the small 16g spinning tires out of the hole and it is a automatic i would seriously consider the small16g for your first turbo upgrade. But everyone is entltled to their own opinon!

Check out the spool time on this video clip! But i have to say i really like the evo3 for 5 speed cars. You dont need a smim!

not tryin to whore this thread or nething man.but cars and hobbies are not cheap.end the end u get what u pay for.if u go the cheap route your always gonna buy more and more stuff that u should have done in the first place.(i know i been there and spent alot of money on the cheap route.)but if u must go a cheap route i would reccamend u buy a ssautochrome evo3 with the 2g install kit.my buddy has 1 and it pulls hard, full boost @3k-3300rmps and holds 18psi fine.it has prob 2500miles on and zero shaft play.i here alot of ppl knock ssautochrome but i would have to disagree.but by goin with that or even a 14b even ull have to change your bov.go with a 1g for now.

Chris

Well it seems though if you want to make your job more simple rather than piecing together parts Slow Boy Racing does have a 14b, 16g, etc... install kit for the 2g that includes J pipe and all that things you need to do the swap easily. I actually have a 14b ready to go into my 2g and I'm willing to pay a little more to do the swap correctly the first time. What I alwayws say is, do it right the first time and you won't have to worry about it. Its really up to you. :dsm:

A 14B can get you to 280WHP with the right supporting mods. You know when you start making 350WHP, you should start to save more money on the side for broken parts. To do 350WHP and not have stuff break, you need to buy a lot of good parts, starting with the drivetrain.
